I have a few questions.
I currently have one adult male bearded dragon named Atreyu. He has a tank about 3 and a half feet wide, one foot long, and two feet tall with newspaper for substrate, a wide, flat food dish, a half-log hide (currently too small and pending replacement), and a big stick to elevate for basking.
Along with more things to climb on and a larger hide, I have some changes I want to make. I don't like newspaper, but I know loose substrate is bad news. I've been told to use non-adhesive shelf liner from many sources, and that's what I'm going to get. I recently read that it can be good to put some moss in their tank to help with humidity, so long as you check it often to make sure it isn't mushy. Does anyone know much about moss and beardies, and whether this is a healthy/positive option? Are there any risks?
I've also seen suggestions for a digging box, which seems great! It was suggested to get some sort of bowl (I plan on getting a large water dish intended for snakes from the pet store, it's made out of the same stuff as my food dish and fits in a corner), and fill it with alfalfa pellets, then check it often to ensure it doesn't get any moisture and begin to mold, as well as empty it if they poop in it. Has anyone tried this? Is there any problem with using alfalfa pellets? Is there a better option?
Thank you for your help!
