Morning Black Beard

Well I have been working night shift throughout the winter, so I don't get home until 6 a.m. and Spike is sound asleep. Well this morning when I got home I accidently woke the poor guy up and he sure showed me that he didn't like to be woken up in the wee hours of the morning. He showed me his first dark black beard. Now correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't that mean that they are mad? It shocked me at first because he is about 7 months old. I didn't think they started black beardie until they were around a year old. Anyway I just thought I would share that. And unfortunately I didn't get a pic, if he does it to me again tomorrow morning I will try to snap one.

Dont worry about it.
Ruben started black bearding at only 3 months old.
Some dragons are just more "vocal" about voicing their displeasure, it doesnt always mean they are furious. Ruben beards if he is hungry, annoyed at me for not feeding him enough, and generally for attention. Its now his favourite trick to get attention to pancake and blackbeard inexplicably, because he knows he gets taken out and fussed over... and ofc the beard is gone in 60seconds

Hi there, I get this with my dragon too. We are often up before his lights come on and when he first gets out of bed he blackens up, flattens himself and puts his beard out for a while - he puts it in and out almost as if he is having a morning stretch!

Hehehe...that's funny. Sakura does not like to be woken up either..and she showed what I now realize to be a "weak" black beard. When she's REALLY AGGITATED..it looks like someone painted her chin jet black and part of her front legs, too. She's only done it three times since we've had her, but it never ceases to shock me when I see it.. LOL..

I had the same thing yesterday morning and was going to make a post about it! While getting ready for work I glanced over at Vinny and there she was in all her glory. Sitting up on her log just below her basking spot watching me... she was flattened out with her beard fully expanded and BLACK. My little girls first black beard! OK, the first one that I've noticed haha. She was a cranky dragon yesterday.

My daughter brought her BD (Babe) over a couple mo ago, and after visiting for a while, it was time for Babe to have some lite. We took my BD (Big Daddy) out of his tank, and put Babe in. I put Big Daddy in his outdoor enclosure, and set him by the tank. Well........he could see Babe in HIS tank, using HIS lite and didn't he get mad!!! :angry5: His whole body (not just his beard) got black as a boot! After about a half hr, he returned to his old self. So, I guess that being mad does contribute to the whole blackbeard thing.
