The short story - my blood python has mites. I've been really strict about his quarantine, but with these little devils, you never know. I've checked Budo and the other snakes, they seem to be clear, although I think I will treat them anyways, just to be safe.

On multiple recommendations, I went with "Reptile Relief", made by Natural Chemistry, which I ordered on PetMountain. It arrived today, but it is not Reptile Relief! It is made by Natural Chemistry, but it is labeled "Reptile Spray", when I specifically ordered "Reptile Relief". Here's the exact link I ordered from.
http://www.petmountain.com/product/reptile-health/501364/natural-chemistry-reptile-relief.html
Any thoughts?

Also, it instructs me not to use it around the faces and eyes. But the mites are congregated around the face and eyes! How is this supposed to help if I can't use it on their faces?

Any tips on treating Budo? I'm set with the snakes, but I'm worried about Budo.

Thank you all!

Hi Maya!

I have only once had to deal with mites when I got my first beardie several years ago.(R.I.P. Rocky)
But anyhow I used the Reptile Relief product with him and had great success getting rid of the mites quickly.
It only took one application to him and many days of excessive cleaning to his viv...but that stuff works...an I or should I say Rocky had no ill affects from it. I actually keep a bottle on hand just in case.

Sorry I don't have any information about the Reptile Spray....just wanted to bump your thread incase someone else has heard of or used it. Maybe they just changed the label....could you post the ingredients an I could compare it with the Reptile Relief bottle?

Thanks, Barbara!

I have looked into it a bit more, and I believe that the product I received is Reptile Relief with a different name, although if anyone has confirmation it would be appreciated.

Did you use the Reptile Relief on the enclosure too?

Yes I did use it on the enclosure too, but first I washed the enclosure with a bleach & water solution and removed all of the furniture that was difficult to clean. Also used paper towel on the floor which I changed daily when cleaning the viv after spraying it down with the Reptile Relief...if not a couple of times a day as it was really bothering me for him to have them. :( Nasty annoying little bugs!

Bathing Budo while he has them will help too mites can not swim...if you look closely when bathing you can see them floating on the water. Luckily Rocky loved bathing hopefully Budo does too.

I'd still like to compare the ingredients....I'll take a pic of that part of the bottle and see if it comes out to where you can read it...if so I'll post it so we can compare. But I think you might be right about they just changed the name on the label. I'm interested in knowing...darn they say curiousity is what killed the cat...good thing I'm not a cat.

EDIT:

Okay what the H E double hockey sticks is 97.4% other ingredients.
Are the active ingredients the same?

Now I do know that you can not spray it near the face and head use a cloth and spray some on then rub over those areas. Also with snakes it should not be used until at least 6 hours after a shed never on the fresh skin...though it doesn't say anything about any other reptiles while shedding.

Hmm...I think I'll go read their website http://naturalchemistry.com/pet-products/products/list
Okay they don't even show the Reptile Relief anymore and they use to....now the Reptile Spray is in it's place.

But the directions are the same as on the bottle I have...... http://naturalchemistry.com/pet-products/products/detailed_description/52
But I can not find a list of the active ingredients online.

Okay called the 1 800 # and they are closed for the day. :banghead:
 Guess I could have just done that earlier.

Okay, will do. :D

Yep, he loves baths; I bathe him every night anyways.

Thanks a ton! That is the same as mine. I agree, the 97.4% "Other Ingredients" is rather suspicious. :? Like RepCal not telling us how much D3 is in the calcium supplements.

I treated Sangre today. He really is loaded. I shot a few pics that I'll post later.

Thanks so much for everything, Barbara! :D

Hello,

An easy way to get rid of mites is a simple bath in diluted betadine. Use a soft toothbrush & misting bottle. Once they all get congregated to the head you should be able to get rid of them all. When the water gets full of them, dump the water out & start over so they don't accidentally get stuck on him again.
Don't forget to clean out your entire tank. The wood pieces you need to soak them in hot water & then bake them at 250 or so in the oven for about 30-40 minutes.

Thanks, Tracie!

Well, I think we're all clear. I never saw any mites on the other snakes or Budo, and the blood python looks clear, too. I think I'll give everyone one last spray of Reptile Relief, just to be safe. :D

question... what do these mites look like? i cleaned huego's tank last weekend and when i lifted one of the tiles there were little bugs under it. that was the only place i saw them and that was the only one that had a papertowel under it. I just so happened to be cleaning out his ENTIRE tank to include washing/baking and that's why i saw them, but haven't seen them after and have never seen anything on Hue.

Thanks for any pics or descriptions! :)

There are many different kinds; they also look different during different stages of their lives.

Here's a pic of Sangre the blood python. The little black dot on his peachy area is one of the mites.

For a size comparison, here's him with my hand.

It might be worth it to treat Huego and his viv, just to be safe. Mites can really harm reptiles if there are enough of them left on the reptile for long enough. Hope he's okay!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
