Mistreatment.....

I have created this so that people will say what they have seen in these pet stores and I will be able to go into my local petco, petsmart, and pet supermarkets to show them the link to this thread! if I get 25+ pages on this I will go out of my local range and show them what horrible treatment to reptiles they have.

GO RANT AWAY MY FRIENDS !!!

well this was not a pet store but yesterday my daughter and I went to our local petco they were having a reptile show.( there animals are amazing because the manager also owns his own breeding store). So they brought in all kinds of fancy ball pythons and some trans bearded dragons and all kinds of amazing animals. they had a reptile contect for the people at the store that brouht there pets and this one guy pulls out the reddest beardie I have ever seen at first I was amazed then he explains it is one year old ( it is aprxo 7 inches) and that it ate its own tail off because it was infected so bad. I got to look at this poor dragon and just wondered what the breeder of this amazing dragon would think if they saw her now. her face was smashed her tail was half gone and partial dead she had mbd really bad. I luckally did not have to say a word the manager at petco pulled him aside and explained to him what proper care was and that he needed to do something or give her away to well me lol. not that I need her that would be alot of work. So this time props to petco and the guy bought 200 + worth of correct supplies hope that poor dragon all the best. On a better note MY dragon won first place

At the Petco I go to in Holyoke, M.A., they didn't have a reptile specialist on floor, it was their lunch break, so the fish woman (who I am told later by one of the reptile specialist is great with lizards and is just a great employee and blah blah blah) took over for that bit. She told this man that it wall all right to feed his baby beardie pinkies so long as they were dead and live ones when they were older.

They also highly recommend the starter kits for all reptiles as well...yes, they got me with that.

They said that calci-sand is the greatest thing ever because when your beardie is lacking calcium they can lick the sand and make up for it. Hello! They poop in that sand thank you very much.

I did talk to the district manager and she did have them take beardies off of sand and onto the rept-carpet, but still a lot more to be done.

I went to Petsmart a few days ago to get supers for my sweeite and I saw the babies none of them were active except the one on the top he was very cute showing off I saw he was a lether back but all the others weren't so lucky especially the one on the house looked dead he's behind the plant in the picture

A few other stores:

@ the local PetSmart in Enfield, CT
They offer pellets and other food bigger than the 3" long babies entire head. How can they eat that?

@ the local Pet Plus
They have beardies in a cage smaller than a 5g and super narrow.

I got my beardie from a pet supermarket... He was the only one left alive in their 15 gallon 75 degree torture cell. he was the lucky one. I came back to the pet store 3 days in a row for proper supplies and to check up on him, and finally on the third day I brought him home and he didn't even have relocation stress from his movement. 6 months later he is the most handsome red/yellow/orange dragon I have ever seen.

went to petsmart today I normally dont go because my local one gets in beautiful trans and hypos and lethers and they are always in poor condition and its hard for me not to buy but they were haveing a sell on decor and my new tank was pretty bare so I went. they had just got all new animals in and there cages looked great but there was a nice young man buying a water dragon and he was asking all the right questions and getting all the wrong answers. He was told they are the easiest reptile to keep they stay very small and only need a heat light no uvb required. ok they are in no way a reptile i know much about but I do know it will outgrow the 20 gallon tank in a few months and uvb is a huge must have. He actually had the uvb light and hood in his cart and the woman said it was a waste of money and no to bother with it. I was pretty irritated but i just hope he goes home and does his research since she did tell him." if you change your mind or get bored of it in a month you can just bring it back no questions asked" thats great pet ownership
