I noticed the other day with one of my beardies that 2 nails were gone. One nail on the 2nd toe on the left front foot and one nail on the longest toe on the right back foot. How could this happen last time I picked him up he had all his nails. I pick him up 2 weeks later since I was to buisy to pick him up and I notice he has 2 nails missing.

Will the toe nails grow back and how could they have broken off exactly? I man he has nothing in his cage to hurt himself on. The basking rock is so big and heavy I have allot of trouble moving it. So no way could he move it. Oh and his hollowed out log that he likes to curl up in the bottom of. The hole of the log faces up sort of like a volcano.

So what exactly happened here?

Hmm...was your beardie shedding at all during that time? The only thing I can think of is retained shed on the toes...that can cause them to fall of if not removed so it is likely it could impact nails. Otherwise, maybe they were caught on something.

That is a good question about whether or not the nails grow back. I would think it would if it was removed completely (sort of like clipping their nails)...not sure, anyone else?

The toes are not partially missing they are all there jus tthe nail is missing. Take the longest toe on the back legs it is the same length on both sides but one one side the long toe is missing it's nail. I have had a lizard that was given to me that had 2 toes that were falling off do to retained shedding but you could tell that part of the toes were missing it was not just the nail.

I should also mention there is a bit of one missing toe nail the other one just seems gone. The rest of the nails are fine and in fact very sharp. He does not dig allot and I have seen evidence that his toes shed. The reason being is I find sheds of his front and back legs whole sheds. IT looks like there is little gloves in the cage after he sheds that are complete so he is infact shedding his toes.

I wonder if it is the same thing as it was with his tail being a bit bent. I just noticed his tail was a bit crooked it was not MBD since he was getting calcium and UV lights and not the cheap ones the good ones. Also he was getting many differnt kinds of calcium suppliments. He was getting them in his bearded dragon food then I would powder the bearded dragon food on top of that.

He would get fresh and canned bugs both covered in calcium yet his tail is bent and I do not know why. Also the fact it has been like that over a year and he has not gotten any worse pretty much proves that was not the case and he looks healthy other then the bent tail and 2 missing toe nails.

One nail looks like it just simply broke off like what happens with fingernails once and a while. But the one on the back foot seems to be just gone. Unless the one toe nail was just never there and I did not notice. Since the toe on the back foot looks the way it should it just has no nail and there is no scar or anything the whole toe is there all the joints are there but the nail is just gone.

When he was younger he was not a very nice beardie he would bite so I left him alone allot. He is tame now that he is almost full grown and now I actually pick him up and spend time with him. So I could very well have not noticed but the one that broke on his front foot I know he had since I would see it when he is basking the front nails are more noticable to me than the back legs.

At any rate I still like him even with 2 missing nails and a slightly bent tail.

Actually I could be given a beardie that has no tail 2 missing legs 1 missing eye scars all over and I would still think he is cute since even with that it does not mean that the beardie is any less of a beardie. But I would of course prefer if the nails grew back at least the one on the front foot.

Hi
Is there any way you could post a pic of his tail and his nails? May be easier to figure out what this could be.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
