Mercury Vapor Bulb Options

Hello Everyone,

I'm wondering if it's necessary to buy one of the reptile MVB or can one of the MVB from 1000bulbs.com be bought instead. Please check out the link to see what they sell. http://www.1000bulbs.com/search/?q=160+w+mecury+vapor+bulb

The site has other wattages but I need a 160 for my 100 gal tank.

If you plan on using a MVB, you actually have to get the reptile type as the ones from 1000 bulbs won't prevent metabolic bone disease and the light from them could actually damage their eyes.

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling that was going to be the answer.

My next question is: Is it ok to buy a Powersun since that is what my local stores sell? I've read a ton of negative and positive evaluations on them as welll as the Mega Rays and it seems as if the Trex MVB is no longer being sold.
