Okay-
I bought the megaray 100 watt SB. It's making Toni's cage go about 115 degrees or higher. I know I can't put a dimmer on the bulb. And the bulb can't be moved further away unless I have my fiancee do some carpentry work. Do you guys have any suggestions?

You can try more ventilation. What type of enclosure do you have? I have found my wooden enclosures get too warm in the summer months so I have added more ventilation to allow for more crossing airflow. If it gets really warm I will place a fan near the vents to increase airflow. How close do you have the bulb to the basking spot? Also are you using a digital probe thermometer to take the temps?

I have a wood custom made viv...4x2x2. There are vents at each end. There is either 11 or 12 inches between the bottom of the cage and the light. I am using a digital probe thermometer that I just got today. It depends on where you put the probe under the light to how hot it is. For instance, directly under the light it is coming in at 115 or more. If you move the probe just a little, it goes down to 107. So it seems to be dependent on where she lays. What do you think?

Hello'

How long have you had the megaray? The temps fluctuate quite a bit, especially in the first few days.

Generally , unless you have something blocking your beardies way, they are going to position themselves dead center.

I've only had it since Monday evening. Toni has been kind of laying all over the place.

The only thing that I can suggest is that you give it a few more days to see if the temps level out. Like the other poster mentioned...the more ventilation you have the less hot it will be.

Okay thanks. It has gone down a little today. When I got back home from my morning walk, it was reading 113 dead center. Toni isn't laying under it now....she's at the other side of the cage. I'm going to keep a close eye on her and see if she lays under it more today. I've got the viv door open now so there's more air flow.

opening the door for more airflow was a good move. You should figure out a way to leave the door open(on the hot side) about an inch. I am sure your fiance could cut a stick to block it from opening it anymore if the beardie decides he wants to try to escape. Also, as a more permanent solution. Make some more vents in the ceiling of the enclosure. Heat rises so that is the best place for added ventilation. good luck!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
