Mega-Ray are CRAP!

First one i bought blew after a few weeks..
Got a replacement "and had to pay shipping" this one just blew as well,,,,ONLY A MONTH OLD!!

Im so frustrated!

I bought a Solar Glo 125 watt made by EXO-TERRA,,are these fine?

Anyone have any mega-ray issues??

Are you tilting the megaray??It will not work at an angle.it must be straight up n down.it also shuts off if it gets to hot.It comes back on after it cools.

I agree, I bought one at the reptile show last weekend and it turned on for a second then died!!! I'll never buy one again. I'm going to stick with Solar Glo or Powersun. I tried to email them and got no response. Never again!!!

I use SOlar Glo for my UROmastyx and other beardie and they work great. I also heard from a breeder that they put out as much UV as the Mega ray.

we use solar glo for our bd's and they are great! *we learned last summer that if the power goes out they won't come back on again until they cool down though, just fyi...we thought ours was blown lol*

I have been using the Megaray now for a month. The only issue I had with it was about a week after I got it, I had unplugged it to do something, tried to plug it back in within a minute and it would not come on. I am assuming because it was still too hot. I waited for it to cool off completely, plugged it in and have not had an issue since.

There are quite a few members on this site who use tha Solar Glo and say it is a great UVB.

Solar Glo's are perfect good MVBs and Im sorry you had such a bad time with your MegaRay.
The only issues Ive heard of for MegaRays are tilt-mounting and using them on a dimmer.

I had fantastic results with my megaray, both in heat output and the wonderful affects on my rehabilitating boy Ruben. His appetite increased, his activity increased and his colours just started to pop.

Im very sorry you had a bad time with the MegaRay because I cannot say enough good things about them.

I bought a T-Rex MVB from petmountain a while back and it blew within one second of turning it on. Petmountain replaced it with reptisun tubes, which I am much happier with and have had no issues with. I am leery of purchasing another MVB like that if they are so fragile. I have one dragon that needs the extra UVB output of a MVB, but hers is good for another 6 months. I will have to try to purchase another when that time comes. Not sure which one to get now...

We have two MegaRays (the 160 watt variety) and for us they are doing their job just fine. We've had them for about 3 months now and we've never even encountered problems with them overheating and shutting themselves off. Our little girl very rarely strays too far from the side of the enclosure that has the bulb on it. Her colors are awesome and she is quite healthy.

We have back up Powersuns as well (which definitely came in handy when we rescued Zilla) and we haven't had any problem with those either. As a matter of fact, we are beginning to see yellow and orange come through the awful coloring he has from lack of UVB exposure for over a year.

Unfortunately a bad experience will turn a person off of something completely, but as long as you use something that will ultimately benefit the health of your beardie, then that's all that matters. And of course, we all agree: NO COIL BULBS OR REPTI-GLO 10's!

If you are asking me, we are using the Zoo Med Deep Dome Fixture. Max recommended wattage is 160.
