meal worms; is it too early?!

hi! i was just wondering if it was too early for my 2 and a half to 3 month old beardie to eat mealworms. i bought medium sized (which seem pretty small) meal worms today for my 10 month old beardie whom is sick to see if she would eat them (shes on antibiotics from my vet) and she wouldn't eat them, however i dropped one into my young beardies tank and he gulped it up! is it too early? it may seem like a dumb question but i just want to make sure! thanks!

Mealworms are a descent fattening grub if used respectfully. The meat:shell ratio is not the best so you must be careful in the quantity that you are feeding due to them being hard for your beardie to digest and could cause them to vomit them up, impaction, or irritate their digestive tract.

Small beardies under 5 months old have a tiny kink in their digestive tract that eventually straightens out as they grow. But due to that kink (like one in a hose) its hard for them to pass hard things... not to mention the small size of their vent.

A 3-4 month old beardie should be fine as a treat to give 2 or 3 mealworms once a day... ONLY A COUPLE OF TIMES A WEEK. Just to monitor him/her as well. Making sure all basking temps are appropriate in order to aid in proper digestion as well.

It may sound over analyzed, but in the many years I have been breeding.... I can relay all of the medical info that Vets will tell you as well.

As for the sick beardie on Antio-boitics such as albon.... Albon is a strong anti-biotic so it may irritate their stomach as is.... I would advise using a more gentle food to not irritate the beardie anymore than he/she already is... Try waxworms instead.
