I think it is very likely my bearded dragon has MBD. I have ordered a reptisun 10.0 T8 and should have it tomorrow. She barely opened her eyes and would not even attempt to eat dubias. I ended up partially syringe feeding and partially assist feeding her some retaboost. She is just laying down in her tank not doing much. I also gave her a good soak this evening which I have been doing every other day. Her eyes are swollen and I think she may have an eye infection. I had some polysporin ointment so I put it on her eyes. We do not have a reptile vet in our town and the nearest one only sees patient’s Monday-Friday (an hour away) so there’s no way for me to get her there. If there is anything else I can do at home to help her please let me know. I don’t want her to die a miserable death but she seems to be going downhill quickly.

Yes I have been dusting all her insects. I’ve been waiting to save up to buy the correct lighting because I bought what the pet store told me (not the right thing of course) so I have been dusting all her feeders because i figured she needed extra but with how little she eats it probably hasn’t mattered.

Okay well once you get the t8 make sure it is not blocked by a screen and is 8inches from the basking spot. Honestly she probably needs a vet that can give her Vitamin D treatment.

If you are in a warm place now take her outside for some UVB---- 15 minutes is = to 4 hrs of UVB --- direct sunlight -- dont put her in glass you can use a plastic tote - if you think she is lacking the UVB get her out if you can --- what kind of UVB were you using ? the coil?

Yes a coil. I have taken her out for 30 min the last 3 days in direct sunlight. I will keep doing that. Husband will pick up reptisun tomorrow so she will have it on all day Friday. Can I mount it on the side of the tank or should it be directly above?

Should I put her beside a window tomorrow to get some light during the day? Our living room has a lot of windows and she could get a good bit of indirect sunlight.

In direct sunlight is not really enough she needs to be outside for that to help --- the window filters out the UVB rays

Ok. I will take her out as soon as we get home again and set the light up tomorrow. Thank you for your help. Hopefully she makes it through the night.

It should be above but to the back of the tank so that there is a gradient of less intense light towards the front where she can escape too.

No cover on bulb--- if it's a T 8 bulb 6-8 inches from basking--- if it's a T 5 it can go on top of screen 12-15 inches from basking- no cover on bulb--- I would pull it away from back a little she can sit directly under it

A thing you could do is use a kiddie pool and have some walls and hides and put the beardie in it only if its warm enough and leave it out for a while and that would give it some good uvb

Hello,

How badly swollen are her eyes? It is likely being caused from the coil UVB light so go ahead
& turn that light off while you are waiting for the new tube. If you can get her outside in the sun
for 30 minutes or so daily that can help a lot. Be sure not to place her in any glass tank or a
small, enclosed plastic type of bin or she will overheat.
Just hold her on your lap & let her sunbathe for awhile.
She will need calcium 5 days per week. Since you will be using the T8 tube, use D3 at least
2-3 times weekly. The tube should be mounted directly overhead & within a 6-8 inch distance
from her. Place it alongside of the basking light, also.
Are you able to get any food into her?

I wish I could we have 2 dogs and I know one would kill her. We have large skinks in our yard and she frequently leaves them on the door step as presents.

Lock the dogs up and take her out -- you can put her in a tote w/ no lid tall enough she can get out and let her sit in it for 15 minutes --- keep an eye on her - sit out there w/ her--

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
