MBD Treatment

After much reading here I believe my BD is starting to show symptoms of MBD and I know it's because of a calcium deficiency. Can't get him to take any calcium. He eats my roaches just fine but as soon as I dust one with Calcium, he won't eat it. If I wipe the white powder off, he'll then eat it. He's starting to get the trembles so I wanna act quickly and get this under control.

The problem I've run into is none of the local pet stores carry any form of LIQUID Calcium, so I want to know if I take the Rep-Cal Calcium with Vitamin D3 Ultrafine Powder and mix it in a little bit of water, could I syringe this into my BD's mouth, or maybe even inject it into the roaches before I feed him and this will do the trick? I can order some liquid calcium but that's going to take some time to get here so wanted to start this in the mean time.

So, would this water/calcium powder mixture be okay to use and have the same effects? I also plan on ordering some Reptaid because I feel it couldn't hurt to get him on that as well.

Thanks for your help!

You could try mixing it with water, yes. You could also pay a little extra to overnight liquid calcium. You have to be careful dosing that, but that could be injected into roaches just fine.

What kind of UVB light are you providing? This is essential for metabolizing calcium and preventing MBD.

In the 3 years of having my BD I have never run anything other then a Reptisun 10 bulb in his Viv, changed out every 6 months.

** I did manage to find today, a bottle of Zilla Calcium Supplement Food Spray. Apparently I spray this on the food and then feed to my BD. Also says I can start with 3 drops orally per day right away. Says it's 1700 PPM Calcium (Min). Would you recommend I start with this stuff orally and go with the 3 drops per day dosage? How long should I do a daily dosage and then back off to what? I assume I don't want to give him too much as well as too little??

Thanks for your reply and help!!

I am no authority on dosing - why don't you PM the message you just sent me over to Tracie (Drache613) - she will definitely tell you what to do dosage wise.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
