Marking babies?

I've got some 4 week old babies at the moment, and I'd like to mark the ones that I'm keeping so that when I sell the others I can easily point out which ones are taken when people are chosing. I've read that people use nail polish to do this, but I just wanted to check that this is safe for them before I did it.

If not, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can use?

We use fabric paint from Jo Ann's or Michaels crafts, safe and non toxic, plus it comes in a bunch of colors
