What is this spot? Zig woke up yesterday and was basking alot. I didnt handle him till bedtime and I found this mark on his belly. It is not raised and doesn't seem to bother him but it is alittle shiney-ish.

His basking spot is slate tiles and it is normally about 110* but since he's been sleeping I haven't been checking it. It is at 113.7*. I don't think that is hot enough to burn him tho. ??????

Hello,

Hm, that really doesn't "appear" to be a burn, no. I am not completely ruling it out though. It looks more like possibly yellow fungus, or a small spot that is going to get ready to shed.
Have you bathed him recently?

He is usually bathed once or twice a week but he just woke up on Sat from brumation. He was up for a few days about 3 weeks ago and the spot was not there, plus he saw the vet then and got a clean bill of health. He has never begun shedding this way, but... Everything is new these days. Should I take him back to the vet? Wait and see? Bathe him daily? If its a fungus, how would he have gotten it? What do I do for that? Is that common during brumation? His viv is completely dry. It is all tile and he sleeps in a blanket.

Thank you so much for the help. :)

Hello,

Well, yellow fungus can be caused from too many rounds of medication such as Albon which tends to disrupt the normal bacteria in their system which ends up sparking a yeast type of infection. Has he been on any medications?
A regular fungus can be caused by too high of humidity in the tank, or even too dry possibly which just upsets their moisture balance of their skin. Too dry of conditions though usually just brings on shedding issues, most of the time.

Are there any other marks on him anywhere? Is it just a small area on the tiles that get that hot? You don't have an undertank heater do you?
It could be a burn. Why don't you try to put down a towel over the hottest areas on the tile, just in case it is a burn. Do you have any aloe vera gel that you could put on that area? Let's try that & see if there is any improvement on the area first, before treating for a fungal problem. I don't see how it could be a fungal problem though.

He has never been on medication. All of his stool samples came back negative for parasites. The humidity in the viv, measured by the digital thermometer from Walmart, says LO. No water is kept in the viv except for daily salads that are watered down. His entire shelf (9X18") is slate tiles and the basking light shines down on one side and his favorite uvb spot is on the other side of the shelf. I added an older pic, but it shows the basic setup. Basking site on the upper left. So, he has a lot of variation of temps up there. Should the towel be a paper towel or a cloth one? I do have aloe vera. Is that better than vitamin E oil?

Your digital thermometer may not be working right . It should say something , try misting the digital thermometer out side the viv that should make the Humidity jump up if not it's not ready humiditY.

Hello,

That is a nice tank setup. Do you have a basking light directly beside the UVB light? Which UVB are you using?
I would use a cloth on the bottom, since the paper towels are pretty thin. That should help if the tiles are indeed, getting too hot.
Try the aloe vera first, yes. Let me know how he is doing & how the spot is looking, if there is any change here soon.
At least it does not seem to bother him right now.

Yes the UVB (reptisun 10.0 tube, replaced in Feb) is 48" so it runs the entire length of the viv diagonally and the basking light is next to it. Then I have a reg household bulb on the other side for brightness. I can also raise the basking light. I checked the temps with my temp gun and the digital thermometer us accurate. He seems to have some beginning shed on his arms, so maybe it is shed.??

I will try the towel and aloe. Thanks.

Just an idea, but is there anything at all that he could have been resting on or in that could have stained his skin?
puddle of juice or spilled baby food? Any die from the tile look like it might transfer?

I know I got some gatoraid on my beardies chin and it took a long time to come off.

Nothing I can think of. Like I said he was brumating for a few weeks before this and he was in his favorite blanket, which was clean and dry. Thanks for the reply.

Hello,

How is he doing today? Let us know how the aloe vera works for that area. I hope the towel helps keep that area of tile a little bit cooler, as well.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
