hi everyone, hopefully you can help me alittle. ive had my dragon bubble for 6months now, since November, hes my first so its all a learning curve for me, ill forever google things to make sre I'm doing right and always questioning the reptile store guys

so recently I have changed the tube lightening in my dragons tank, they exactly the same as before but for some reason these lights have a hint of blue when they are turned on. my dragon now after two days became very active running around his tank and scratching at the sides and the glass, my first thought was I didn't think he liked the new lights but someone helped an advised me he's probably just getting abit more of what he needs and getting a good burst of energy.

well since yesterday, he's decided he's not going to eat as many crickets as he normally does he has a good 15/20 size 4 crickets, he's aged 8months and has a good weight for his age and size. also he has started going mad for digging, which when I've tried looking up I cant find anything out about males digging only females for laying eggs. he isn't basking for getting a cool spot coz he's doing it under his basking area as well as the cool and higher up away, so I'm a little unsure wither's the blue lighting is bothering him, the temps are all correct, nothing has changed in his tank, that would cause this he's more then happy with his tank....well was.
but also now he's always wanting to be out his tank hes become such a live wire, I think he likes to play hide and seek, he has he free run of the house never hasn't its always been offered to him, but he only ever used to venture no further then the door leaving the front room.. NOW how ever he's up and down the stairs down the hall into the kitchen into the dinning room Connie etc. Hes good at letting myself and the kids hold him doesn't want to get away, unless hes been there longer then he wants (normally 15/20 mins) then hes slowly try shuffling out your hands or just walk off us.. still think I'm his favourite hes always trying to get into my hair so sleeping when he wants too chill out on me. (as I'm writing this, hes just found the fire place with the mirror init and isn't impressed with his reflection) haha   he enjoys going on the back garden on sunny days plenty fresh air but I have to watch him as last week hes eaten two chaffer beetles that got into the cage he beat me to them, never seen him run for food so fast, like hes starved :!:

anyways my concerns are could the blue lightening be bothering him do you think? or is the new lighting just giving him a boost, with him getting older should I be bothered hes now going off having crickets as much hes only eaten the max of 10 in past two days and nothing today. so far anyways. I'm 98% sure hes a boy ive done the flash light on the tail and seen what looks like two nuts, and now hes getting older and bigger I think they starting to show alittle more. can anyone give me some advice on this please hes not due back at the vets till feb next year for a yearly check up. hes not showing no signs of illness or anything mouth looks fine when I checked, looks healthy and poops enough, although its always stank, vets said can be normal there was nothing init when they sampled it.

Hi there, my guess is the same as your guess....the light is either bothering him or has given him more energy. What exact type/brand is it and can you post pics of your set up as well as your dragon Here's how :
https://www.beardeddragon.org/useruploads/ Then use the XIMG to upload pics
If you'd include pics of his vent [ rear end ] here I'll see if I also think it's a boy.

It also just may be a coincidence and he is just acting much more energetic as some do with the digging [ both males and females ] as they approach the " teen" or young adult time of their life.

A brand new UV tube can have sporadic output for a week or so. Its not unusual for beardies to change their behaviour when changing the UV. Personally I've witnessed staring and jumping for it.

My money is on :
1) he's bored !!!
2) he wants out to play and knows if he make the digging action you will let him come out.

Hi thanks for your help guys.. so I have uploads pictures of his viv it's a 4ft long one the biggest small viv for a full grown adult, when he gets too his full size when stops growing I'm upgrading to a bigger viv for him. There's plenty for him to do but the bigger he gets I do take a few little things out just to give him that bit of extra space. I've reshuffled the sand in the viv and he's already straight back to digger and running mad. He's always out the tank except for when I go out the house, I put him back just in case any of my cats are loose in the house (they have never been a bother to him or him to them, but while I'm not there I won't risk anything) if anything I think the cats are scared of him like they are my rabbit :/... pussys.

I've done the light on his tail and seen to nuts, and I think they are just starting too show out, so you can't really see In a picture but I'll try in a min when he's run some steam off, he's currently exploring upstairs again. The bulbs are the exact same brand and make I had in before, with being my first I didn't want to risk changing and it be wrong.
They are exo terra repti glo 10.0 30w

I've currently weight him this morning and measured he is 402grams and 16.3/4 inches

Aswell to the second reply he is always trying to get behind the light lately and he never used too. Forever scratching at them too. I don't want to replace the bulbs for them the be a hint of blue and waste money, but then I don't want to replace bulbs with some they may now have hint of blue and he still be the same just coz they new bulbs. I need to stick it out for a week to see if he settles.. and if he's in teenage stage, this boys going on a naughty step and won't be allowed his green ping pong ball.

I think you have
http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/linear_fluorescent_bulbs.php , the 10%uvb T8 ,
it's a good tube , but with no reflector hood it's not capable of producing sufficient UVA and UVB to penetrate to the height of your viv. So your beardie is likely trying to get closer.

I recommend installing a slip on reflector behind the T8 tube (will effectly double the penetration of the UVA and UVB produced if you are not quickly able to upgrade to a T5HO 10%-12%uvb tube and reflector hood (ideal for you viv's height).

In the short term perhaps replace the 10%uvb T8 Exo Terra with a 12%uvb T8 Arcadia tube (still needs the slip on reflector).

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
