hello....

so, just got my phoenix worms in today, and falcor LUVS them, she eat about 10 of em!

they look just like a regular fly maggot, just brown...so my question is, could bearded dragons
eat regular fly maggots? i'm not sure what the nutrition value is, or if they are bad for beardies or not?

i'm sure someone here knows something about that, but i will do some searching myself some more to see if i can find anything!

No the nutritional content is far off phoenix worms. You would also need to breed 4-5 times to make sure there are no parasites/toxins in them that would do harm. Its the same withh all feeders, unless you get them from a reputible live food supply shop.

I wouldnt do it, they look similar but are very different (just like superworms and meal worms)

They are indeed fly larvae [black soldier fly] but have been specially developed/produced for use as a feeder insect. Would like to hear from anyone else who regularly uses them..

they are great, falcor realllly loves them, i've already gone through a few hundred of the buggers.

which brings me to a question, are they easy to raise/breed on your own? i was trying to think of ways to save some money, because wow...i spend more on 'falcor groceries' then i do for myself! LOL!!!!!

i would really like to try raising the phoenix worms, but havent the slightest know-how to do it.

i may do the dubia roaches, but not sure if falcor could eat them quite yet...she's only about 3-4 months old, 11.5 inches long.

how long does it take to get a good colony going of the roaches?

many many thanks again :)

:book: ok so i did some research and found this site for pupating phoenix worms its a similar process to pupating super worms http://www.esrla.com/brazil/frame.htm as for breeding the fly, i would use a rubber maid tub with fine screening on the top. in the wild they lay there eggs in beehives so make some catacombs out of egg cartons by gluing them together and placing them vertically in the bin. and as that other page said use rabbit poo in the beens as the fly wont lay eggs if there is no food source for there babies(i would put them in this container as soon as they are pupa's). the flies will live no more than a week after they all die check for eggs. this is all speculation i have never tried it just did some research on it :D if it works let us know.
know for breeding dubia roaches this is something i'm familiar with, and they can be and excellent food source for all sized beardies. you would just feed the nymphs (babies) to your pooper. it takes a good four to five months to get a well established colony going may vary, if you start with more it will take a shorter time. here is a good link that tells you everything you need to know http://www.nyworms.com/dubiacare.htm hope iv'e been helpful :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
