Hey everyone :) We just got Luna yesterday and started noticing today she is keeping her right eye closed pretty much all the time; however, if I walk up to her she will open it for a few seconds then close it again.

I have T5HO 10.0 tube, Par38 flood light and a normal household bulb on the cool side (doesn't heat up tank) for some extra light... substrate is non adhesive shelf liner...

Her setup:

Her with her eye shut:

My gut feeling on this is that she is getting ready to shed that side because she was rubbing that side of her face on the strings holding the bridge up and rubbed that side again on my husband's arm lol

I just wanted to get your opinions as we are extremely paranoid right now :)

I suspect nothing to worry about but just in case :

What BRAND is the T5HO UVB tube you have in place ?
How far is it from her basking spot ?
How are the lights and heat on each day ?

Apart from giving you the one-eye treatment , is there any sign of puss or crusty stuff associate with the eye that's being kept closed ?

How far is it from her basking spot ?my best measurement based on where she has sat the most is 8-10"and never directly under it
How are the lights and heat on each day ?14 hours 7am-9pm on timers

Nope there is no goop or crust. I looked to see if it was irritated, off color etc... :(

Is the eye he tends to keep closed the one the is usually closest to the (UV) light ?

(unlikely an issue if it's a good quality brand , but I know others will ask)

Well I guess it depends on how she is sitting lol on the branch, then yes it faces that direction.. when she moves to the bridge - not really because she is facing towards the front mostly. It is very weird and since she was rubbing that side of her face yesterday, I was starting to think maybe she was getting ready to shed that side soon.

I think she's got an itchy eye because she's due to shed on her face. (hence rubbing that side of her head on rough surfaces).

my gut feeling too.... I will keep an eye on it this week and see how it goes. If it isn't a shed, should I just readjust her things lower from the lights in case it is irritating her?

When my Kozmo was small she had the same issue when shedding. Her left eye would be closed 99% of the time. I thought she had eye issues, and I used saline drops to help her. Not until she did a whole body shed did her eye open up. She would pop her eyes and roll them around, really scary for a first time beardie owner. But once she started rubbing her face on her stick the shed came loose and she was seeing 100% again. It happened another time after that too.

Now she's a big girl and it hasn't happened in the last few sheds. I think Luna's eye will be ok. Just make sure it doesn't get swollen or red showing signs of infection.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
