im not sure what you have in her cage right now but i had the same problem! lol lilllys nails were so sharp that everytime i picked her up she would draw blood. so when i upgraded her tank to a 40gal, i put slate tile in there for the substrate/bottom stuff so far its been helping. ive notice a change in just the 2 months ive had her in there. i dont think we are supposed to cut their nails lol but ive never heard of anything either. im just tellin ya my 2cents. 12inX12in tiles at lowes *they will cut them for the size of your tank, just make sure you have the right measurements* for a 40gal were a little under $13. i think the demensions on that one is something like 35X18? anyway, lilly likes to dig so when she does she is filing down her own nails
good luck
Yes you can, i used to use a very small kids nail clipper, and you just want to take off the very last black bit, not the quick (see through bit underneath). Its always a good idea to get the vet to show you the first time if your not feeling too confident about it.
Just on a side not, slate tiles are very good for kepping the nails trimmed, since i swapped over a yr ago i havent had to do it once!
I went to a tile warehouse (like topps tiles or something) and they had a box with a few broken, so i got to buy individual tiles for 50p each. Not bad considering they were imported italian slate! lol Most places will have a box somewhere with broken bits in, and they will sell you just a few to make a profit instead of scapping the whole box!
