I just recieved two bearded dragons from someone who no longer could care for them. one is very orange and the other looks normal. but they both have huge long beards. I have never seen this before I am guessing it is either from them being overweight or they are a subspecies. What are your opinions could use a little info thanks her are pics of what I mean they are very very heavy and big to 19 inches each and both are females never been breed and 2 years old

Hello,

I have seen that with overweight dragons. Their skin has either gotten stretched out or just saggy due to being a little overweight at one point.
You may be able to get that to go down with some good diet & nutrition over time though. They are still beautiful.

Oh my goodness! Those are some big girls. They are very sweet looking though:D
I agree with Tracie... a good diet may help to slim them down a bit.
The previous owners may have been giving them way too much protein(feeders).
Did they mention what and how much they were feeding them?

Well there's no doubt they were well fed :D
You might want to stay away from the pinkies... they are really high in fat. The romaine really doesn't have much nutritional value and the kale can be fed occasionally(due to it being so high in vitamin A).
Here is a wonderful list of foods to feed your two girls. It tells you what to feed and what not to feed. http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/Nutrition.html

I also wanted to mention with an adult beardie their diet should consist of 80% veggies and 20% protein(live feeders).
30-50 live feeders a week is plenty of protein for the adults.
BTW... the older beardies can become quite lazy, especially if they are a little on the hefty side  Allowing them time out of their viv to run around is always great exercise.

Hope this helps some. Good luck with your new beardies and if you have any questions at all... just ask! :D

I had never seen that type of chin before, either. Here is a pic of Redrock's chin (I took it on my cell phone camera, that's why it's not that good) I didn't think she was that overweight, her chin started to grow somewhere after she turned 1.5 years ago.

I have 2 females(Miss Piggy & RD) both of which were rescues when I got them but they also have huge gouls/throat/beard whatever you want to call it. Miss Piggy had weight issues when I first got her RD didn't...and were both fed pinkies as a main part of their diets prior to becoming a part of our family.
Don't know if that has anything to do with it or not....
