Logs/Driftwood

Obie has been spending way to much time under her basking platform so I am thinking about taking it out and getting a large piece of driftwood for her enclosure. Anyone have any tips on finding some. I used to live by the Mississippi but were I am going to school there isnt any major waterways. Petco and local pet stores dont have much and of course they charge an arm and a leg for a twig.

I was wondering the same exact thing the pieces of drift from the pet store are like 25-30 dollars. Petmountain.com has some pretty good deals but is there a place that specializes in selling driftwood for lizards?

Yeah and I dont want to buy some from online unless I can see a picture of it because I want something that will work right. I found some drift wood dealers but they consider them "display pieces" or art so they charge more.

I honestly dont know, we have loads and loads of driftwood here.. we've never ever bought it, just go and find some...

Since there's no major waterways, what about a cool tree root??? maybe take a stroll through the woods and see what you can find?

If you do this do you soak it in bleach? or seal it anyway?

Scrub it down with a mild bleach/water solution, then with straight water, then bake for 30 minutes at 350*.

Her slate platform was hot to the touch when I removed it today even though the rock closer to the lamp was not (the rock was lighter colored). She was probably actually basking under the platform because it was warm enough beneath it. Either way I took the platforms out and right now its just her one piece of driftwood (2.5') and the large stone. I remembered a quarry lake not to far from here and I will be going back home for some doctors appoitnements and might be able to gather a few pieces while I am there. I've never done the 350f thing in the oven. Does it char the wood at all?

I doubt it if you soak the wood before baking it.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
