locust

hello, well, in my wisdom i decided to try Spyro on locust. She loves them soooo much. Toooo much. They cost a fortune, i didn't realise just how many she'd go through :shock:. So i have now decided to breed them. i'm gradually setting up a tank and things but just wondered if anyone else has tried this, it would be helpful if anyone has any tips thanks. Julie

This is slightly o/t, but where do you buy your locusts? I've been looking to try them (at least in the future if they are too large right now), but I've never seen a feeder supplier online who sells them...

The local reptile shop up the road in southampton uk sells them, but i'm not sure which stockist they use i'll have a word and let you know.

I believe there is a legality issue with them in the US. Not sure if it is the transporting of them, or actual ownership that is illegal, but you probably won't find them for sale in the US. Your only other option would be to go bug hunting for a day and catch some wild ones to establish a breeding colony with (not for feeding directly to your beardie). Again, not sure if the ownership of them is legal here in the US.

Julie, I have seen some caresheets here and they on a few UK based reptile forums before. You might want to poke around in a few of those forums and see if you can't find the caresheets. It has been a while since I seen one so I cannot recall where to send you specifically.

I tried breeding them.... I failed. But I wasnt very well prepared at the time (the eggs were rather unexpected) and I accidentally suffocated them

In the mean time, ordering online, in bulk is a much cheaper option than pet stores!

Oh ok you are in the UK! :lol: I wish that we could get locust over here. Maybe I will catch some outside & try to start a colony! We can't import them into the US.
