Live plants

Hi everyone, I've had my bearded dragon Tropylious for about 4 months now and have been thinking about growing some wheat grass and maybe some basil to put in her cage. Does anyone have any suggestions on what other kind of plants i could grow for it?

A lot of it may depend on how much space you have available. Are you thinking of growing the plants inside the tank or growing them separately to have a fresh food source available? I've kept a kale plant in a small pot in the tank before and it worked well. I've heard of people growing hibiscus in the tank too. If you're growing outside the tank you probably have more options including different greens and squash etc.

Although they're kind of an eyesore weed, dandelions should be pretty easy to grow.

I was thinking about getting some started and leaving them in there and switching some in and out.

My husband grows flats of greens spouts (baby greens) that go into the enclosure. You could easily sprout containers of greens under a lamp and cycle them in. They come up pretty quickly. I've tried with varied success:

Greens (collard, mustard, turnip, kale, lettuce mix) - older transplanted sprouts worked best, the seedlings got trampled, need extra light to grow. They are still doing well, and have held up to a fair bit of abuse. They will tolerate low light but won't thrive. I have an LED flood light over mine, a basking light isn't enough.

Clover (seeds, transplanted seedling and grown transplants) - spouts got trampled and dried out. Not enough light. Didn't water enough. The grown transplants were rather unsightly.

Nasturtiums - need extra light, but seem ok.

Ginger root - slow so far, but it sprouted.

Wheat Grass - not enough water (?) and gets floppy.

Peas - never sprouted

I'm sure you could find seeds for a culinary variety of dandelion that had more and fuller leaves.
