(Not sure whether this would go on this topic or general discussion)

Anyways, the past month I've noticed my beardie, Boss, deficate in his food bowl or around it. (His food bowl is on the cool side of the tank)
What I've also noticed is that he's been wanting to dig at the Zoo Med Exo Carpet that he has so I went ahead and made him a dig box (filled with sand) the size of the width of his tank and about 1/5th of the length and placed it on the cool side, and put the food bowl on top of the sand
Now, everyday, I see him poop in the box!
I'm glad because now it is so much easier to clean and I don't have to take out the carpet as often anymore. I can just scoop out the poop!

Just wanted to share this story with you guys, cuz I didn't know the could be "potty trained"

Whether or not he is actually potty trained, or he just happens to only poop on the cool side, it's pretty cool for me so please don't be mean and tell me "it's just a coincidence" or whatever. Thanks.

I'm going to try this. Cleaning and disinfecting tiles every time Lemon poops is exhausting, besides the nightmare of when she poops across two tiles and the crack of the tiles...

What kind of sand did you use in the dig box and how deep is it?
I used play sand that was sifted, washed and dried
It's like 1.5-2 inches deep. I'm not too sure.
Here are some pictures with some of his old poop I was too lazy to clean out LOL

No problem
If I had like a box or bin, I'd use it but I don't want to buy one so I just used a small parcel box. Save money and recycle! :D

Just be prepared for a runny poop seeping through the bottom!

Oh I didn't mention that I lined the box with packaging tape! I good layer of it so sand doesn't go through the little holes or whatever
Hopefully his poop won't be runny enough that it'll seep past all that sand and into the bottom!

You can kinda see the tape in the pics

Nope, that should make it leak-proof. You certainly thought this through!

maybe he's pooping in there because he sees the big black hawk (eagle - whatever!) swooping down to grab him! jeez!

It's an American Eagle outfitters logo. It's actually on both sides of his tank, so it's not a reason why he'd poop there.

That's really nice!

For my beadie, I just give him a bath in the morning everyday and he doesn't need to poop in his tank.

I still want to try your sand box thing since I will not have enough time everyday to bath him and wait for him to poop in the water.

Thanks for the share.

that's pretty cool!

i have them both bath trained, and they will hold it in until they get a bath. Dargon will actually do a potty dance when he has to go. it took a couple times to know what he was doing. 'oh, he wants to come out and run around!' *puts on floor* ***pooooop*** and then he wanted to go back in.

Tasty Treat will go in her tank when she is getting ready to lay eggs. that's one of the big indicators that she is going to lay.

the litter box would be great for the days that i am at work all day. but i don't have room in their tanks for that, they have their big beds.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
