Here is a link that may shed some "light" on your question:

viewtopic.php?f=34&t=101703&p=793076&hilit=ReptiGlo+10.0#p793076

Tracie (Drache613) weighs in and explains it all quite well, as she so often does. :)

It's clear, that there is a certain amount of unpredictability with these bulbs, and there are several variables to consider. Mainly, how the bulb is set up in the enclosure (how close beardie can get to it), and also the physical constitution of the beardie would certainly play a role as well. It's great that your friend hasn't appeared to experience any problems with the light. I assume then that his beardie has grown as expected, and hasn't had any ill effects such as lack of appetite, eye issues, etc? Well then, I'd say he's one of the lucky ones, then. In the few months I've been here, I've read and participated in threads where these lights were causing problems for dragons, and changing out the light has made all the difference. Just too many incidences to ignore, IMO.

My understanding is that the Repti Glo 10.0 is still a rather new bulb, but I'm uncertain what that means in reptile supply language, so perhaps it has been available for 6 or more years. The only ReptiGlo recommended here is the 8.0 tube, which is a safe bulb, but only "ok" in terms of UVB emissions. Strangely, Exo Terra has discontinued it, but it can still be found here and there.

Just my .02 for whatever that's worth. :dontknow:

The best,
Em

Yes, I hope it goes well also, as it's not really "you" testing the light, but your dragon. I'm not saying this to be catty, truly. It's just that for me, having learned what I have here on the boards, if I know something could possibly be harmful to my dear girl, I just simply wouldn't be able to take that chance, ya know? Just not worth the risk. We've been down the road of bad equipment, and if I'm knowingly able to avoid it, I vow never never to walk it again.

My sincere hope is that your dragon won't experience any ill effects from the light, as you say your friend's dragon has not. I hope you see the same results. As Tracie mentioned in the post linked above, there are certainly dragons who do ok under these lights however, it's important to keep in mind that even without the other health risks, this light does not emit strong UVB, the quality of which is suspect as well.

As I mentioned above, we've had personal experience with bad lighting (not with a Repti Glo, but another UVB also of suspect quality), and it's quite distressing. We're feeling very lucky that our dragon was able to withstand the poor conditions until such time we were able to make changes to her enclosure--the change in her was almost instant, within hours of switching the light she was active and eating--but we realize now that she wasn't far from shutting down altogether. She is now eating as she should (71 bugs for breakfast this am!) and thriving, finally. *whew* Due to her slow start she is only 9 inches at 7-8 months old, so she's behind the game considerably. Her eye has healed and she is now growing, and we are very hopeful, but it's difficult to say just how much her long term health and growth will be effected from having been under that first light. Time will tell I suppose. *sigh*

The best to you in your research which for the record, I'm ALL for research. I just hope your findings are positive, for your dragons sake. Would you mind keeping us posted?

Thanks!
Em

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
