Lighting

I want to know all about bearded dragon lighting my lil guy is getting an upgrade on everything soon and I want to make sure he's getting the lighting he needs. I am looking at the reptisun 10.0 but I don't know exactly what that does ik they need stuff like UVB. I know they also need a basking light is that the same thing? Right now I'm using a 100 watt zoo med repti basking spot lamp with a regular light bulb.
So multiple questions
-Are the lights that I'm using rn fine?
-What is the reptisun 10.0 used for?
-What kind of light do they need?
Thanks!

Hello,
They need 2 lights: 1 that provides heat (that's the basking light) and one that provides uvb light (that's the reptisun 10.0). As long as your basking light gets the basking spot warm enough, and is a bright white light (no colors), that's good. The uvb light should be 12" away from your beardie if a t5 and 6-8" if a t8. It is recommended to put the uvb light inside the enclosure, so it's not obstructed by any mesh.
In addition to these lights, if your home gets too cold at night (below 68f), then add a ceramic heat emitter at night, which does not put out any light.

So instead of a regular bulb should I get a reptisun 10.0 and put that in they're instead and keep the repti basking spot lamp

Yes, keep the basking light and replace the regular light with the reptisun 10.0 t5

Okay thank you do you have any suggestions on how put it in the enclosure instead of on top of the mesh

Unfortunately I'm no help there. This is how my husband did mine, but I'm sure it's more complicated than it needs to be lol

I have two EXO Terra glass enclosures with the stupid mesh lids, and currently I have a sick rescue Beardie (9 months old) in a 20 gallon long hospital tank with a mesh lid. I have done the cable ties before, but it's a pain. I recommend using the heavy-duty, "Industrial Strength" 3M Command Velcro.

You can buy this 3M Command Velcro at Walmart (cheapest place I've seen) in the hardware department where all the 3M Command hooks are. There are several different ratings, it's very important that you buy the 3M Velcro that says "Industrial Strength" and is rated for up to 16 pounds! One package will hold one light fixture. I get the package that contains 2 big rectangles of Velcro, and use the entire package on one fixture. The stuff you need, rated for "up to 16 pounds" costs like $4.77 per package at Walmart. I've had this Velcro holding my 8 month old girl's 18" Zilla Slimline fixture (Reptisun 10.0 T8 tube inside) since I got her, and it's fine. I couldn't pull it off it I wanted to. I've heard of people having the fixture fall, but I'm assuming they didn't use the stuff rated up to 16 pounds (it comes in 5 pounds and 10 pounds too, and they're a dollar or two cheaper, so no doubt people try to save money and it's not worth it obviously). There's no way that the 16 pound Velcro will ever give out, like I said I don't know how I would ever get it off if I wanted to.

You can also use several different 3M Command Hook set-ups to hold your tube fixture inside, they make a million different types that can be rigged to work.

Okay thank you! I will definitely get the industrial strength.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
