I know this stuff is probably asked a billion times but I’ve done so much reading that I get a lot of conflicting answers.
So, I’m really upset as I found out my little beardie was getting no UVB for the last 2 1/2 weeks. I bought the Zilla Desert Series Slimline Fluorescent light for my beardie. The box stated that the acrylic piece was to protect the bulb...well then I read that it stops the UVB rays...so I took the acrylic piece off last night. It also says it is strong enough to place on top of mesh, then I read that it isn’t but I can’t fix it into his cage at the moment so it’s still sitting on top. He has a tree that is 3-4 inches from the light so is that ok for now? So now I’m freaking out that my poor dude hasn’t been able to process his calcium and stuff. He is still alert and running around so that must be good?
Anyway, last night I purchased the Reptisun 10.0 T5 HO UVB light and the hood for it. I was gonna get the 10.0 T8 but I heard the T5 HO was better. Problem is, this won’t arrive until Tuesday. Will he be ok until then? And will this new light be able to sit on top of the mesh? Or do I have to remove the mesh? It’s 22in bulb and 24in hood. The terrarium is 32-36 inch but the basking bulb is large and takes up a fourth of the tank. The light will be placed right along side it (not under) and pretty much covers the rest of the tank.
