Hi,
Yes those are the brand I've got. Though I think I got the "plus" ones - which are the 12%.
They freighted really quickly and at a good price with heaps of packaging. I paid an extra few dollars for insurance in case of breakage, but they were so well packed they arrived safely. My local store has since said they can order them in.
As far as what to use when we lose our supply of "normal" globes. I don't know - that's why I'm stocking up now! I guess a ceramic heater side by side with an energy saving (12 or 18 watt)globe might do the trick. Maybe? That way you'd still get the bright light and the heat.

Can i plz ask u how u all have ure lighting in ure tanks. My friend wants the Arcadia fluro light but we rang around and they want close to $100 for the fittings to hold it??????, and she doesnt know how shes going to fit it on her tank as its all glass. Will she need to sealent it on to either the back of her tank or to the inside top of her glass!

Hi,
My first tank was all glass, but with a wooden lid, so the fitting for the globe was simply screwed into the inside of the lid. The fitting shouldn't be anywhere near $100.
When we got our new tanks, made of melamine, I bought the 36 inch fitting which was around $45. I could only get 36 from a specialist lighting shop as it's not considered a standard size. The 18, 24 and 48 are all standard sizes stocked by any decent hardware store for way less than $45.

One method I have seen is to attach the fitting to a strip of melamine that runs the length of the tank, then attach some short chain to the other side and hang that strip from a couple of butchers hooks at either end of the tank. I guess it depends if the top of the tank is removable or not. If it's a fixed glas top - umm, don't know!

Can you order some in? if not there are 'reptile' bulbs such as solar glow, they are just more expensive which is why we use the household ones! They do come in high wattages and are a bit different to the household one, so im afraid it will be trial and error to see which is right for your cage.

Any Aussies out there that can help plz? Im tryn to organize with my local pet shop to get some lights in for me.

I know its personal preference which ones to use but what one out of the 2 of these is cheaper ReptiSun 10.0 UVB Bulb or the Arcadia D3 Plus18"? or are they around same price, and are they both available in Aussie. I know of one place to order the Arcadia(Pet City Online) but what about the Reptisun?

Bearded Dad, the ReptiSun is primarily available in the USA. The Arcadia 12% is offered in the UK and Australia.

Now as for heating, can you find a non energy saver Flood Light ? These are cheap and good for "basking" temps.

I know I am not in Australia, but I do try to keep up on things world wide, when it comes to dragons !

Hi Bearded Dad,
I can't remember what lamp I had previously ( either a reptisun or reptiglo), but the Arcadia freighted in was considerably cheaper than the other from my local pet store.
For your regular globes - do you have an electrical supplier in Echuca? Our supermarkets now have only energy saving globes on the shelves, but our lighting store and the electrical trade supply store both still have good stocks of the old globes. I stock up on 1/2 dozen every few weeks.

My local pet shop is kinda useless, amazingly tho they have very healthy animals. (Just need to do a little more research).

I will try the local harware shops next and lighting stores and maybe the $2 shops.

Thanks guys.... How addictive is this site? Lol.

G'day mate,

For the basking bulbs, Bunnings is your goldmine they still stock ES screw Phillips spot lights in all wattages i suggest buying them in packs of 5 or 10, individually they cost around the $4 mark. Now onto the flouro the best light we have in Australia is'nt all the name brand ones that have been mentioned above for a Flouro get the NEC T10 ($14-30 depending on length) even our zoos use them and for an MVB OZbright or Aussie Sun. All of these can be bought from Herpshop.com (their in VIC as well) along with all the fittings.

Hope that helps mate.

I can point you out to the spectral analysis of these lights if you want it for comparison with the name brand ones but i can tell you now that the T10 out performs the name brand ones hence the use of them in our zoos (cheaper too lol).

Mate,
You could ask a local lighting supplier and see if they could get them in for you is they don't stock them. The full name you have to ask for is the "NEC T10 Blacklight". If you decide to use them then you would need a basking light as they are a flourescent and don't provide heat. The basking light could be any ES spot light Bunnings stock the ones from Phillips if you have a Bunnings near you or just any local lighting store (not heat lamps though they are different). If your enclosure is big enough (let me know the dimensions) it's actually best to go with an MVB heat and light all in one. If you do decide to go with an MVB go check out http://www.herpshop.com.au/ and order the Aussie Sun MVB from them (cheaper than OZbright variety at $50). Brian is the guy that runs the shop and everybody in the reptile comunity in Australia knows about him. He's a top bloke and he will be able to ship you one without any worries, give him a buzz or shoot him an e-mail through the site and he'll be more than happy to help you. By the way Brian also stocks the NEC T10 but only in 2 foot, you use to be able to get them in 4 foot but not any more or at least not through him.

Let me know if you need any more help and shoot me a PM.
