Lighting Help

I just got my beardie spike a new 40 gal tank and it came with this lighting...the only problem i’m having is his basking side being 90 degrees. The basking bulb is on the right side of the duel dome lamp and the UVB is on the left. These are some pictures of his set up and the lights it came with. Any help is very appreciated!

Hello,

The tank itself looks very nice & so does your dragon!
The setup kits don't always have the proper lighting with them, so most of us here are going to
recommend that you upgrade & change the UVB compact/coil from Reptisun to a long, tube type
one. There is either the T8 type or the T5 type which is a higher UVB output you can consider.
The basking bulb is sufficient but when you do upgrade to a tube type, you will want the basking
bulb to overlap at one end alongside of the tube so that he gets focused UVB + Heat in one area.
Are you using the stick on type of thermometers to measure your basking spot temperatures? If so,
those are usually off by anywhere from 5-15 degrees in some instances. I would suggest trying to
get either a digital probe thermometer or a temp gun, or both, to measure the basking spot. It is a
lot more accurate that way.

Thank you so much for the help, just a couple of questions...what do you mean by having the basking bulb overlap the UVB? Also this morning he woke up and had a dark tint to his skin so I’m assuming the tank is definitely too cold so I put the duel dome lamp from his old tank next to the big one which has another basking bulb and a 100W infrared bulb and the temperatures seem to be rising a bit. Would this be a bad idea to have 2 basking bulbs over the tank and 1 UVB from the dome in the middle?

As long as your house room temps don't drop below 65 F he will be fine. Never use any type of colored heat light at night because it will disturb his sleep patterns. They like it dark and, cool at night. If it does you can use a CHE to provide heat.
I too recommend the Reptisun 10.0 T5 HO or the Arcadia 12%D3, I would recommend a 24" for your sized Viv. Run it next to the basking bulb to be sure your dragon gets both UVB and, heat while basking.
