I have recently adopted this amazing beardie and am trying to get his tank temps right and all. I dont think he ever had a basking light before with his previous owner (at least there wasnt one in with all of the other supplies that came with him). He has been spending his time under the basking light most of the day since I set it up. I am concerned because I have his UV light under a hood that is moved over a bit to the side of the basking light and want to make sure he is still getting enough UV light.
Heres some info:
75 gallon tank
Repti-Sun 10.0 UV
100 watt daytime heat lamp
75 watt basking light
He is about 3 years old

I also want to make sure his temps are ok for an adult dragon...the cool side is about 75-80 and the warm side is 80-86 and his basking spot is 86-105 depending on where on the branch I am testing (I have a temp gun). One day it got up to near 110 on just one small spot and that scared me but he was loving it...i turned it off for a bit anyway. Is that to hot? Can basking lights potentially burn him? Thanks so much for your help and I am including a pic of my set up.

That looks like a nice setup and he looks super happy. I love the pictures of their venting "pac-man" faces. Your UVB placement is OK if it doesn't fit next to the basking light. Do you have a screen between the UVB and the basking area? If so, I'd try mounting it inside or cutting the screen away from under the UVB to provide as much as possible. Your UVB bulb is good and so are your temps. I know how quickly the readings can vary when using a temp gun and that's OK. For an older dragon if you can get a basking spot to 100 that's fine. 110 is a little hot for an older one but not harmful. If he can easily move to a different temperature and seems to enjoy it I'd just let it be.

Thanks so much for the fast reply :) Yes there is a screen under the UV light source. I have read that its better to mount them inside but I worry that if it ever came loose it could fall down and hurt him. Any suggestions for mounting it safely? Also any pics of setups with inside mounts would be great too if anyone has one. Many thanks!

That IS a big concern, so you need to mount it safely if you can. I opted to just cut the mesh wire on the top of my tank to fit the size of the UVB bulb. A lot of folks use command hooks with success. I'd imagine you could use wire or some kind of fishing line as well, but I'll let others comment on how they mount inside the tanks.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
