I just bought a 36 x 28 x 18 vision cage, without the optional vent for a uvb light. I also ordered http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/22-t-5-ho-fixture-high-output-with-arcadia-d3-12-ho-bulb/ for a light, but not sure how to mount it. Should I lay it across the vents on the back, cut a new vent on the top, or put it somewhere inside?

Thanks.

I'd stick with the 22'' T5 for the main cage. They are excellent. I'd cut a new hole in the top and just put it on there. It should sit over the basking area and be mounted about 12'' above the highest basking point.

I also use a MegaRay but it's in a clamp lamp I have set up as a portable basking area in the living room for when we're home and my guy is free range.

Thanks, I figured that would be the best thing to do. I'm just a little hesitant to start cutting up the cage.

The key is that the T5 has an optimal output at around 12'' or so. If you have that kind of room inside the tank, OK, but otherwise it needs to be outside or else it will cause problems. A T8 can be mounted 6'' over the basking area and work well enough.

There was a spot in the front of the cage where I was able to mount it. Do you think this will work or I should still cut a hole on the top?

That should work well. Since it's offset toward the front, it will produce higher UVB levels there and lower UVB levels toward the back. I like having a gradient like that and also have mine set to the front.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
