Hi all,

So I've recently purchased a beautiful little girl named Nova, if you've seen my other posts you probably already know about the little cutie! Being new to the beardie world I'm trying to get all the information that I can to make her life happy and healthy. I had a few precautionary questions, just to be prepared.. id rather be same than sorry.

I live in Massachusetts, and if your from New England youll understand where I'm coming from.. Although our past winter was less than mild, a huge question that crossed my mind was what happens when the lights go out? In the chance of losing power during a snow storm, how do i keep my little girl warm?

We have a very toasty wood stove in our dining room. I'm assuming the basic most obvious answer is a generator, but I currently do not possess one.. and regardless are there any other things i can do?

Thanks!

In an emergency I'd say the priority is keeping there body temperature at an acceptable level. UV lighting they could live without for a few days without any harm coming to them.
I always keep a few chemical reptile heat packs and have hot water bottles just incase.
As you said though, to completely avoid any stress a small generator would be ideal.

I live in New England, too. When we lost power this October I wore my beardie under my shirt for two days (nights included) until I could get her to a place with a generator. It wasn't ideal but most of us (guinea pig, parakeet, beardie and several humans) made it through. Unfortunately my fish did not. I did get some heat packs after that (not necessarily just for my beardie, though) and have been thinking about how those could be used in a pinch.

Great thing to keep in mind!

I know im coming into this conversation very late, but my boyfriend posted this question to me just today and I didnt have an answer. I live in upstate NY and we occassionally get short power outages. The heat packets are a good idea. All we have is a wood stove which could keep our house warm but we cant keep it going 24/7. Crazy how no matter what... there are always little emergencies that have to be prepared for!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
