Could use a ceramic heater to keep them warm at night with it being that cold. I know here in St. Louis its 6 degrees and dropping tonight. But each of our rooms has a baseboard heater in them and my daughter keeps her room warm at night.

Emily is a big girl, but oh so pretty. My oldest dragon was quite orange when we got him,, but now he looks sort of 'muddy'. The babies I have at the moment are very monochrome. My next beardie is going to be a bright one.

Emily is huge but not fat. Shes just under two years old and sees the vet every 6 months. Her weight has stabilized so not worried in the least about her being big. Her bloodwork always comes back midline normal as does her kidney and liver function. Shes healthy as a horse. Geico was very healthy and no idea why he passed on cept for our flood that probably gave him pneumonia and never showed a sign of it till just before he passed away,

Hey:) today I just purchased my first silk back today and the breeder whom I purchased from said to use the same basking and uvb bulbs as a regular beardie but to keep it father away from her so I have a 100watt keeping the basking side around 90 and a 10.0 uvb light. Would it be better with the 5.0? There's mixed reviews on how to care for these guys.

When do they finally get all of their true colors? Rin is 7 months old and so far his stripe down his back is turning a light citrus, but has orange around his ears and eyes, and his pattern of diamonds down his back is light orange/gray. I assumed he would just end up being a grayish color with a little bit of orange around the head.
Is there an age that the colors become more prominent if they are going to get more color?

I would like to know the answer to this as well. So far mine seem to be at their best colour just after their 2nd shed!

I'm still preparing for my first dragon but from what I've seen I would have to say that dunners look the coolest. I'm kind of wondering though if it would better to get one that's closer to its wild ancestors. I know that silk backs have fragile skin and I think I read something about dunners being prone to respiratory problems so I'm thinking a normal one would be healthier but on the other hand I feel like the ones who have gone through selective breeding may be slightly more domesticated. Either way I'm probably gonna get a dunner they are just so cool.

Here's Rin March 3rd the day after we brought him home.

and here is an other after a full body shed, and two weeks after bringing him home...uncovering his bed in the morning

This was one of him about a week ago... He loves being scratched between his eyes, which is exactly what Im doing to him here,in the evening, while on my daughter's shoulder..getting some rusty color to him.

He also, now seems to be getting some translucent citrus coloring in the stripe down his back. and today, his head looked very citrus with darker dots on it.
Here is another from last week..

I dont think the citrus is going to be prominent and most likely will fade back to tan...but who knows.
When do they start to really show a dominate color? and you can then say...AH HAH! And can you end up with one that is normal with hints of other colors, for the rest of their lives? How common is that?
We knew nothing about colors when we picked him. We picked him because of his natural curiosity of us and wanting to come closer every time we did.

Morphs can be IDed out of the egg.
Colors can be too sometimes, or they develop as the dragon matures. Good food and husbandry (lights!) can bring out the best and brightest colors. They have some control over the pigment in their skin, and so sometimes their colors really pop more than others.

Since colors are not a mutation like morphs, they can vary quite a bit. Even normals can have bright colors, and interesting highlights.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
