I have noticed that alot of people have problems with how petsmart treats their pets. For example: wrong information about many species, poor labeling (bearded dragon labels say they can be paired in a tank), poorly cleaned tanks and enclosures (for all pets), misteatment of animals (sick mice, throwinng cats in their crates, dead fish in tanks). I think this needs to stop.
As a senior in high school i have heard many times that you can change the world, when i was younger i found it harder to believe, but the past two years have proved that i can. I helped pass the mike's law (to have defibrillators at all school events in the state of MA) and maybe i can help change pet stores.
I decided that instead of sitting on our computers and complaining about the poor quality from petsmart (and others) we should all stand up to help the pets. Sitting and complaining wont help the baby beardies chances but standing up for them could save them.
Heres what im thinking:
If everyone brings a pad of paper and pencil in to the pets store every time they go to get crickets or whatever they need and we all write down things we see that are bad (dirty tanks, dead pets/fish, sick pets, mistreatment) then we can all email/call/write to the company. If we do this enough things might change. Image a petsmart where the beardie babys are in a bigger enclosure and its mostly clean, where the birds arent pulling out their feathers, when there isnt a dead fish in site, where the cricket keepers dont smell, a petsmart we can actually rely on and trust.
What im asking isnt much but if we all do it, then it can change the lives of many beardie babys.
And if you see something seriously wrong in the store ask to talk to the manager (not the employee cause they dont always know whats wrong), even if you are enraged just take a minute take a deep breathe and tell the manager what is wrong, these pets need a voice! Why cant the voice for the baby beardies be the voice of a group of people that love them so much to make a thriving website for them.
Whats in it for petsmart?
If they change their store to accomodate to their pets need then they will be making a larger revenue. More people will feel safer about purchasing pets from their store, they wont have dead fish returns where they lose money, and costumers will be happier.
