Lethargic or signs of brumation

Hello everyone,

I’m concerned for Remi. She’s been acting more lethargic over the last week. She’s keeping her eyes closed more and looks like she’s napping a lot more. She’s recently been treated for giardia and I’m wondering if the oral meds are what’s making her act like this.

She’s still eating and pooping. Today she ate 5-6 bites of escarole and Dandelion greens, 10 silkies and about 7 mealworms (I had to feed her these until my dubia arrive tomorrow). Her poop looks normal too.

Well today I found her like this. This is a first for her. She dug herself under the non adhesive shelf liner and looks to be hiding.

Basking temps are solid and I’m using a T5 reptisun that’s mounted on the inside of a 40gallon tank.

Any advice is appreciated!

Hi Ryan, yes this could be either or both, being related to treatment as well as the start of brumation. As long as she's a good size she will be fine. Every dragon I've owned in the past 25 or so years has brumated, some of them for up to 3 months. Others for only a month, some for a 2 week period, then up + about, then back to sleep. I let them do exactly what they want. Yours is still eating some so she may hide for a while, then come back out. Is she an adult with good weight on her ? That's always important to mention. Even sub adults will go through short brumations though.

That’s the thing. I think she’s a little young to brumate. I don’t have her exact hatch date but she’s around 5-6 months old. She’s 13 1/4” long and 155g if that helps.

O.K, yes she is young but she may still hide for a few days at a time but not really brumate. Her behavior is probably mostly because of the meds. then. She's still eating so that's good, she should bounce back .
