length of beardies.

ok so i was told by a fellow beardie owner that they can get to as big as their enclosure. i'm pretty sure that unless the dragon has giant genes its not going to get to 4-5ft long! that's just stupid! and she also said that their heads can get as big as the palm of your hand! WTF i've seen many beardies and none have been that big or or anything. i'm pretty sure that from nose to the tip of the tail they get to about 2ft long or just under. am i right in this assumption???

LMAO...

So on average I understand the males are larger than the females, and can grow up to 24" long (unless they are one of those german giant beardies and I think those are bigger). In reading the board my observation seems that beardies full grown can be 17" to 24" depending on care, genetics, etc. Head size of your hand, probably not...they aren't like oscar fish that grow to match the size of their tank...

Iccarus has a pretty big head, but his length (if he had all his tail) would be around 22 inches. He's about 16 1/4" right now. His head...well judge for yourself...

I think he's a fairly big boy, his weight is always around 600+ grams, and he's the biggest cuddlebug to me. But of course I'm probably partial. LOL

but 4-5ft in length?!?!? either i'm missinformed or she is because i've never heard of a beardie that hasn't got giant genes in it being that big! i know that there's been one that was around 14ft or something because of the giant gene but yeah.

I don't know, Iccaraus seems to have a pretty good sized man-head to me!

I am very certain beardies don't reach 4 to 5 feet in length. Maybe during the Pleistocene they did, but not now. Especially not with all the breeding experiments we've done on them. LOL, I think your friend is thinking of indeterminate growth, which fish, plants, inverts, etc. exhibit as well as some reptiles, mainly snakes, but not beardies, to be sure!

Its a fair bet any and all true "German Giant" genes have been watered down to the point of being inconsequential. I see "german giants" all the time that don't even break 20". Even still, I've never heard of a dragon longer then 26", and my own 24" male is the largest dragon most people have ever seen in person, including my vet. So its a pretty good bet that 2ft is about the upper end of the spectrum for dragons, with a few outliers here and there.

4ft+ would be absurd. Our cute little beardies and their ravenous appetites would be a major handful at that size. What was once a family pet would be transformed into a monster....no thanks.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
