So over the past like week, Darwin has always been keeping his left eye closed. Usually when basking. Is it because the lights are to close to him? Or maybe he has something in it? So i thought he had something in it, so i use a syringe and put some drops of water in his eye everyday. (he hates it)

Just to answer some questions in advance:
Age- 4-5 months
Length-8 1/2 inch
Substrate- Repti-Carpet
Lighting- 100 W household bulb
UVB- Repti-sun 10. linear tube, right next to bright basking bulb
Heating- 60 W heat emitter right next to lights
Basks on hammock about 4-5 inches right under lights.
29 gallon tank
Rep-cal calcium suppliments
Rep-cal Herptivite Multi-vitamins
Solid poops daily along with urates
About 30-50 crickets a day along with veggies and 1 or 2 wax worms

I'm not sure about the distance. On here, they suggest between 6 to 8 inches from the uvb you have. I was talking to Bob, the gentleman who developed the Mega Ray a couple of months ago (seems like just yesterday) and he said between 4 to 6 inches. So to be safe, I'd go about 6 to 7 inches from the uvb to his basking spot and see what that does.

Now that I have looked at it, it looks swollen. There is like purple swelling underneath his eye. I an going to post pictures.

I would say your Darwin has a serious eye infection.
Being too close to the UVB may cause him to keep his eyes closed more than normal but the swelling and discoloration is indication of infection.
There is a new herbal product that works very well on eye infections and respiratory infections also. It is called Reptaid and you can read all about it on this forum under "for Sale" area. Here is the link right to it. [ Invalid URL Removed / p= t=94618 f=2 ]
You can read about what others have said about how it helps their dragons recover from various ailments.
I hope I have helped you

Hi...Do you have a reptile vet that you use? You need to take him to a reptile vet for some antibiotic eye drops with no steroids. I would turn off the UVB for 2 or 3 days to give the eye time to heal. The light probably did not cause the problem, but bright light makes an injured eye hurt more. Also check your temps to be sure they are close to 110 degrees til he heals. Do you have a temp gun or a digital thermometer with a probe on the end of a wire? If not, you need to get one. Walmart has the digital with a probe for $12.

Also, make sure to give him a 20 minute warm bath daily in water to his armpits. Make sure he is dry before putting him under his heat light.

Good luck

Thanks for all the help. I lowered his basking spot down, and am going to order the Reptaid too. I have a digital probe thermonmeter and it says the basking spot is about 99-101 degrees. Just a question, why should I make sure he is dry before returning him to his basking spot? And will the reptaid really help his eye? I don't think I have a vet near me that could really help.

I don't think Retpa Aid will help his eye. It is for building the immune system and is good to use while using antibotics. It in no way should be saught after to "cure" an aliment, but rather used in conjunction with proper medicine and help assist and build the immune system. I agree with K9kids, you really need to get Darwin to a vet and get some antibotic eye drops. Judah had a eye problem and was doign the same squint. I am not sure if he got a piece of sand in it or from him drif wood. I happend to already have some antiboitic eye drops and so I put these in his eyes, twice a day for about a week. A few hours after i out the first drops in he then coudl open his eye, he could not before. Perhaps you can call teh vet and just ask for some with out bringing him in, they may give you some with out a visit??? Dont' put your beardies eye sight on the line :)

Hi...I doubt a good vet will sell the drops without seeing the problem unless you already are his/her client. Go to http://www.herpvetconnection.com to find the reptile vet closest to you.
I agree that Reptaid probably isn't the answer for this problem.
Good luck

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
