So my mom was looking to get either a bearded dragon or leapord gecko once she gets back from vacation later on this month, which also peaked my interest as i'm looking for a friend (i will spare you the sob story of being an 18 year old kid :p ). So anyway, i saw a panther gecko and i was like, awesome! It seemed really cool and soon made a visit to petco to check to see if they had any, to no avail. I also realized that i didn't like geckos very much because while little they looked cool, but when they got older they looked like salamanders and that just wasn't cool for me, plus all the ones they had were nocturnal, who the hell wants a pet that sleeps all day? I looked at the bearded dragons and they were pretty cool, kinda big, almost about maybe halfway to an average adult size, maybe smaller, wanted something smaller though to raise on my own.

So i took a ride over to petsmart, maybe 2 minutes up the road, and took a look there. If somebody was to ask me if i believed in love at first site, i'd say absolutely. Right when i got infront of the tank where they housed all the 1 month old bearded dragons, he ran right up to the front of the tank and just kind of hung out for a few, and then ran back up to his friends. I loved him. He was like a whitish greay with orange lines and whatnot. He almost looked like a creamsicle looking thing. He was so awesome, i talked with my mom and went back the next day to buy everything i needed, along with my new friend Leeroy. When i went back the next day he did the same thing, ran right up to the front of the tank and just looked at me. He soon went home with me a few hours later.

I got the name Leeroy because i'm a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan (football team) and because he had the orange/whitish grey to him (same colors as the early uniforms to the Bucs), i decided to name him after the great Leeroy Selmon who played for the team. He's also just about 2 months old, maybe a tad older but not over 3 months. I got him on the 8th of August :)

Currently eating somewhere between 8-15 crickets a day (need to start keeping better track, maybe a log), heated side ranging between 100-110 degrees F, with the cool side between 86-90 depending on the day, humidity at night is at like 60% but drops to 30-40% during the day when his lights are on. Haven't tried giving him greens yet as most people put it off until they get older, but i was wondering how to get him to eat it? I asked a guy at petsmart and crushing up lettuce and leaving in bits of other fruit while placing in mealworms will get him to eat it because he's getting the mealworm, while also being introduced the fresh fruits and veg. How'd you guys do it? He's also currently situated in a 20/29 gallon tank, going to upgrade to either a 40 or 75 gal when he starts to get bigger.

Anything else i should improve on/add/change/prepare for? Also don't know if leeroy is actually a girl or guy... I tried checking but it's too hard to tell atm. Going to be super sad if he turns out to be a she :(

Thank you! I went to petsmart today to go and buy a backdrop for him (i originally bought one the day that i got him but it was too small and forgot to get another when i returned it) and a smaller feeding dish to replace the tank of a food bowl/plate he has right now to give him more room.

It's funny, he avoided the cool side of the tank like it had the plague, but as the days go on he's warming up to it. He's yet to climb on or even go in his little hidey-hole house though, don't know what is wrong with it. He's quite the acrobat too  .

I have geckos and bearded dragons and while the geckos are really cute and love to just "hang out" on a shoulder in the evenings, there is no comparison. The beardies are, by far, more full of personality, more fun, and ....awake in the daytime! You made a good choice. It sounds like the two of you chose each other. I love how that happens.
Congratulations. I know you two will be in love in no time.

Its funny, in his cage he kind of just sits around and switches spots every now and then attentively watching me every time i make any major movements around my room, but i took him out and put him on my bed when i got home from work and he was just running all over the place.

Love leeroy, best friend ever

That is one adorable baby. Doesn't it just get you when they stare at you and follow you around the room with their eyes until you come and talk to them or hold them? Makes it hard to leave them.

Haha, it does. I absolutely love him. Gave him his first bath today too since i'm off of work, i don't think he enjoyed it. I put him in the sink with some really warm water and he just kind of floated for a few and looked at me like wtf man? Then he tried getting out for 30 seconds, stopped to catch his breath, looked around some more, and went back to trying to get out. This repeated 2 more times until i finally felt bad and took him out

The baby might get used to a bath after a while and take it better. Mine all did the "Help!" thing at first. After a few weeks, they settled down in the bath. Now they love it. One especially, just can't get enough of sitting in water. She twirls in circles, splashes, loves it.

It's important to offer greens to beardies every day, even if the babies don't eat much of them yet. Here's a great site with a color-coded chart showing which veggies and fruits are safe to feed them and how often:

I bought collard greens last night and hopped them up early this morning and he ate a few leaves right when they were dropped in with no coercion needed but then he stopped. We'll see what happens in the coming days

A few bites is likely the best you'll get out of a baby. But at least he's eating SOME. That's a great sign. Just keep offering them and as he gets older he'll eat more and more. Any leftovers make great cricket food! It's the subversive way of making your beardie eat veggies! Feed them to your crickets then feed the cricket to your beardie!

I grabbed some with the tongs that i have to drop the crickets in his food dish with and he gobbled up another few pieces of leaves and then completely ignored it, he then ate another good number of crickets too.

Its funny, don't know if i mentioned this before but since i got him on the 8th, he's been like petrified of the tongs, wouldn't eat anything off of them, even if the cricket was flailing around, i always had to drop it in the bowl. He would even back away if they got close to him. However, today he's been attacking the tongs with the cricket and leaves still on them like he hasn't eaten in years. He wasn't giving me time to even drop the cricket in his bowl! I don't know if he's just now associating the tongs with food or what.

edit: this happened after i got home from work, about 2 hours or so ago.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
