My question is if killing dogs is inhumane then why are laws not the same for deer hunting? I have seen in houses people hanging the heads of deers that they have killed. Is that not inhumane, or is killing deers perfectly fine, but killing dogs is inhumane and illegal?
Umm...Ok, I'm not sure how this came up on this thread, of all places, but I suppose it is a legitimate question.
First, to address the Michael Vick/dogfighting issue. I'm NOT defending MV, but I don't believe he actually killed any dogs - what he did was abusive, extremely inhumane, dangerous, stupid, and illegal. Yes, many dogs have died as a result of his dogfighting operation, and he is responsible for that, but again, I don't think that he outright killed any dogs. I mean, taking an individual dog and actually murdering it himself. However, he does have the blood of each and every dead or physically abused dog on his hands. I think MV is evil and he should have to rot in jail for the rest of his life. Did anyone see that show "Dogtown"? They rescued some of the dogs from his compound, and it broke my heart to see the dogs and the conditions they endured. I couldn't make it through the whole program, I was so upset.
In regards to deer hunting, the difference is that to my knowledge, there is no torture or abuse involved. There might be incidents where deer are not killed by a shot, and then suffer a slow death, but I don't think that it is the same as someone running a nasty, brutal dogfighting ring.
However, I don't agree with hunting at all. So I am not defending the practice, I'm just pointing out the difference between the two situations.
