I tried to put a leash on Draco for the first time today. I figured I would get him used to it so come summer we would be ready for outside walks. His Highness was having none of it. In a very vigorous fashion he explained to me that he was not going to wear that leash. He even added a little nip for punctuation. Any suggestions from you old hands with dragons? I am not real cool on the idea of force on such a little guy.

I like to trick my dragon by hand feeding him greens, then cautiously slipping the leash on. The key is being quick about it so he doesn't have time to throw the leash off or run away. I also suggest slipping the leash on from the back side of his head as he has less time to see it coming. I have the kind where the first loop slips over the head, and then the second loop goes across his underbelly... the underbelly part is the worst because he just won't sit still long enough for me to loop it under and hook it to the harness!! :? All it takes is a lot of practice, and when you finally get the leash on him, give him a little treat so he knows he did a good job. :)

Our Draco is 4 and a half months old. he is quite the cutie and very expressive. Like my sig says he is friend to cats. Our 40 pound aussie mix dog is scared spit-less of him. When we walk by his viv he watches to see if he is getting attention or even better, food. My lovely bride who was not real keen on the idea of me getting a lizard has become quite attached to Draco and is quite the Dragon mommy now. They are kind of cute together. She is fine until he tries to jump and get in her hair. She tends to scream like a little girl when that happens. and she has become the keeper of the crix. I think she does this mainly to keep me from getting roaches, which she has sworn will never enter her house. Oh I almost forgot she is also the salad chopper. This is getting long winded and probably not for this section so I will just say thanks for the ideas for getting the leash on.

I'm not sure if this will help, but from a young age I have made a point to pick up my little guy's front feet/arms regularly. This means he is very used to having them handled and is more settled when it comes to toenail clipping and putting on a harness... He doesn't even blink now :)
Mostly I would gently pick up both his 'paws' in my hands while he was standing and lift him slightly, often to talk to him etc.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
