Hi guys n gals.

Just a quick post to ask if anyone has any ideas why all of a sudden Izzy has decided that he wants to hide a lot?

The last few days I have switched his lights and stuff on at the normal time (7am) and turned them off at the usual time (9-10pm). But in the mornings he doesnt move out of his hide unless i move him. Once out and about he will eat his dubais and his hoppers (ignores salad), have a poop most days then maybe bask a while and go back to his hide. If i drag him out of the hide and let him roam around the room he runs around happy as can be, licking and exploring for as long as i let him be out (usually 20-30mins at a time then back into the viv to warm up etc etc).

His temps are all spot on as they have been in every one of my posts (measured with a digi thermometer with probes on the ends, 1 at each end of the tank).
His main basking space is situated under the UVB strip (arcadia 12%+d3 18" tube) so he gets the heat and UVB at the same time.

Everything seems fine in the viv and he's been fine up until recnetly where all he wants to do is hide/sleep once he's eaten and pooped. It's just so damn frustrating,

It may be worth pointing out that he recently shed around his lips and eyes and stuff (not a full shed).

he is 18months old approx and 19" long approx, Also i bathe him 2-3 times a week since he doesnt eat his veg often and this seems to be the only contact he gets with water:S

he seems happy when out of the viv but sleepy when in there.

All suggestions welcomed.

And for those of you who know me. or have read previous threads... salads/greens he only eats when he feels like it and often does eat them atall (so i feed those to his feeder critters so he gets the nutrients or some of them via that).

Thanks in advance

Tony

What kind of UVB bulb are you using? When was the last you replaced it?

its stated above ^^

ARcadia 12% + d3 UVB strip its less than 2 months old.

Ooops, sorry about that...

Well, I don't think the UVB is the problem... And if the temp gradient is correct, the next thing I'd consider is maybe parasites? Have you had a fecal sample tested?

If it comes back clear, I think the only other possibility is that he's just brumating.

He's never had a fecal done, like ever. The nearest reptile vet is miles away from me (over 1 hr drive meaning that he'd be out of the warmth etc etc for a goof 2-3 hours).. Other than been lazy in the tank he seems fine when out and about, surely if he had some parasite issue he would be lethargic when out of his house too? He's already brumated in october ish, and is eating his feeders and pooping fine. He has just been a lazy little lizard the last few days when in his tank :(

Okay, so brumating is out of the question.

I would keep an eye on him for a few more days, and let him sleep if he wants to. I wonder if maybe he isn't about to have a big shed.

If he doesn't start showing signs of a shed in about a week or so, I'd consider having a fecal test done. They can show absolutely no signs at all, all the way to being very sick from parasites, depending on the type and level of them in their system - so you kind of just never really know.

Could you mail in a fecal sample? I think id be worth calling them and asking. All they need is a little bit of fresh poo so unless you were going to get bloodwork done or something I don't know why they'd need to see him in person. They might need his weight though so if that's the case you'd need to buy a suitable scale...

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
