So yesterday my husband and I came back from a walk to find Aurora's basking bulb burned out. My husband got regular household bulb to put in until we could get a basking bulb. He made sure the switch was turned to off but when he got the bulb in it came on. The only way to turn the lamp off and on is to unplug it.
Right now we have it plugged into this thing that you put into an outlet to give you more outlets but it's not an actual power strip. Could that have caused that?
We've had the lamp since Nov. 2011 when we got Aurora. Do they stop working after awhile?

Thanks

It sounds to me that the switch in your lamp isn't working anymore, and that the switch is now forced into the open position. I guess that's better than it being forced into the off position.

I assume that the switch is on the cord of the lamp right?

You could try to fix it, or leave it. IMO its no biggie especially if you have it plugged into a timer or a powerstrip that is easy to turn off.

Hi Brandon
Yes the switch is on the cord. It is a dimmer switch. We have to unplug ig to actually turn it off. Is it still safe to use until we can get a new lamp?
The odd part is we has this happen with 3 kther lamps we had for our ogher beardie Yoshi.

Hi leah,

Oh its a dimmer switch? Not just a simple on/off switch?

I could easily say its safe to still use it if its just a simple on/off switch on the cord, but a dimmer I couldn't give advice on. Switches are very simple which is why I know there is no risk, but I've never taken apart a dimmer switch so I wouldn't be able to give advice.

Thanks Brandon
I will be able to get her a nre lamp in about 2 weeks. What I will be doing in the meantime is plug it in while home and when I leave unplug it just to be on the safe side. Is there something I could use as an alternative so I wouldn't have to get at the petstore but would work goid and give our beardie the proper heat she needs? I have heard of people getting some kind of lamp from walmart that is cheaper than the ones in petstored but still work good.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
