Kicked out of Petco...

It wasn't so much the care of the animals in-store, but how the employee was suggesting to a customer to take care of their own pet. I've spoken to the manager before, and thats why the beardies got moved from their little 10gallonish tank to the one on the end cap...guess its a 29-36 gallon bowfront equivilant?

I can tell you all however, if you ever encounter a problem with the way animals are taken care of, the best course of action is to ask a manager on duty for corporate's number and then make a phone call. Taking it to the employees of the store, even the general manager is pointless as the stores are all set up and planogramed according to corporate's standards. This includes what bedding and food every animal uses. There is usually one person per district who oversees the care of the animals in each store within that district and he/she only shows up for visits about once a month. Letting corporate know of the issues is going to be most effective... That way, the big wigs are the ones with the complaints, not the ones who really don't control anything! As for other pet stores that aren't corporate owned, by all means please take issues to managers. My point is that complaining to or picking fights with employees at Petco is really just a waste of time (even tho it is nice to help them better understand the animals they care for.) It really just ends in everyone having a bad day. I am not trying to put anyone down or accuse anyone of anything, just trying to let people know how to best go about trying to change the way chain stores deal with their animals. If corporate kept getting calls about how their animals were being kept in their stores, then maybe they would open their eyes and try to do better, knowing that their paying customers are not happy. just my two cents. thanks~

Also, if you are ever shopping at Petco and receive one of those surveys at the bottom of your receipt, if you want to make a difference, please actually call the number and answer the questions the way you feel. When stores do not get only 5's they are penalized and people actually can get fired. This is their customer service level that has to stay above a certain number and if it drops, all heck breaks loose! My manager actually told the employees to tell customers to give them 5's... how low can you get right? There is also usually a spot where you can leave a voiced comment about the store you visited. That would also be a great way to complain about animal care, as the general manager of the store and the district manager actually listen to those. Hope this helps!

what buggs me most about this thread is that you went out yelled at a store employee, like they have any power to change a store, then come on this web site and anounce that you are so proud of your actions. Right on. Peace, I'm out and done with this thread.

Again you misinterpret what you read to suit your purposes. Please do not post here anymore. I said I corrected a employee about feeding pinkies all the time to leopards isnt good. I never raised my voice, but you have added that. I also wasn't changing the store like I have pointed out, but was looking out for the welfare of the ladies 'personal' reptiles. I never said I was proud, angry or sad over what happened. I posted it up for others to read and take from it what they will. Partially it was frustration over the employees lake of knowledge and nothing more. Please have a good day.

Look, most of us are adults on this site, and I agree with the mods that we should act as such. There are a lot of younger beardie owners who come onto this site looking for answers. There are also a lot of people who go into petstores looking for answers. As the owner of 2 rescued beardies, I will personally stand behind anyone who gives advice so an animal won't die. I am an employee at a petstore, and I will GLADLY take advice if it means saving the life of an animal. Even one life saved is a good thing.

I feel like I may have been misinterpreted as well... let me just add. I wasn't trying to say anyone was wrong in what they did... I just had personal experience working at petco and wanted to let people know of the best way to go about changing permanent things, like ways animals are kept. I agree with butting in on that conversation if misinformation was being given... I work at a family owned pet store now, and heck, I do it to my own fellow employees!!! lol. I am glad that you were able to set someone straight when they were giving out HORRIBLY wrong info. So that's that, just wanted to clear that up as I posted my last post so late at night I forgot to add this :D
 
When we first got Colasis from the pet store we were new to the whole reptile thing, the only thing they did get right was the size tank to get for him a 40 breeder ( since upgraded). If it wasnt for all the people here I dont think we would have a very happy beardie today, while I do not post a lot I do look here every day to make sure he is getting the proper care that he needs, I even try to pass this site onto others, if I knew then what I know now because of all of you I wouldnt have gotten Colasis probally even though he is so cute, at one time when we were getting new calci -sand for him a lady came up to us and asked what we had and we told her , she then proceeded to tell us that she works at a vet clinic and that they had seen a lot of cases of impaction cause of it and to go with the carpet instead which we did thankfully she was there that night and spoke up, and to all of you here that speak up I thank you and Colasis thanks you , you all have helped out so many of us on this site and in the stores by speaking up. :love5:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
