keeping warm in the winter nights.

hey guys how is everyone doing on this new year in 2012?... hope everyone spent their new year's in a great fashion...

i have a quick question, i live in Miami Florida and usually don't have any problems with cold weather... but i was wondering, at night both my temp gauges read 65 degrees Fahrenheit, and in my opinion, it seems pretty cold for my beardie, usually the gauges read about 72-74 degrees at night and 118 degrees in the daytime. is there anything other than a heat pad (which i know are not recommended) to keep the warm at night?..

118 degreese is a little hot for them. Juveniles basking spot should be 100-110 degreese and for an adult it should be 95-105 degreese.

It is fine for the temps to drop to 65 a night. If you are worried you can get a ceramic heat emitter which is a bulb that gives off heat but no light.

well my little guy is a juvenile, you're saying 118 is a little hot?... i will need to adjust/pull the light a little further away. i gotta look into the ceramic heating, thank you for you info!

I don't have any info to help..I just wanna say 65 degrees at night?! UGH spend a winter in Chicagoland! We're lucky if we get a high of 30 degrees all winter! LOL

LoL! I'm originally from Argentina where some winters are close to the 30's and 20's, then I moved to New York and I now live in Miami, Florida, I know it's not cold here compared to up north but I'm just worried about my little guy being cold...

We live in Gainesville and my husband is from Miami...that 65 degrees in Miami feels a heck of a lot colder than 65 degrees really is because it is a wet cold. My sister lives in Michigan and I'm not allowed to complain about the cold to her! :lol:

My favorite Florida weather...? It's 35 degrees and raining. Even my sister in Michigan said it feels colder on those days than a snowy day in Michigan. I've even been in Disney standing next to a couple from Wisconsin who were miserable from the cold and shocked at the 'Florida weather.' We only get a few days of it but when we get it, it's pretty crazy. Bear in mind none of us actually own coats....

I appreciate everyone's input and geographical locations. I see there are many of you who live in much colder areas, you guys must have to deal with much worse... so pretty much if I'm worried? (which some of you say not to worry) I should get a ceramic bulb! thanx guys I feel much better now. I would hate for my little guy to be uncomfortable!!

I always try to keep my pets comfy during the cold nights, My German and Charteux cat sleep outside in a screened off area and imagine, as soon as it gets a little nippy, I throw a giant comforter blanket in the dog house to keep her warm and a small comforter blanket for the cat to keep her warm as well...

That is so sweet that you want your buddies to be comfy and warm. There are so many pets left in the cold and without a warm place to sleep.

My husband and I battle over the temps in the house when it is cold. It's not really a full-on battle, but I get cold very easily so I feel like my lizards must be freezing. Anywhere you read, you will see that a 65 degree temp at night is perfectly fine. I don't know why I battle...maybe it's because I'M cold. :lol:
