Keeping Veggies and Greens fresher longer

Has anyone ever used those bags that keep your veggies fresher longer? usually i prepare my greens and veggies for about 2 days worth. i shred my veggies and break up my greens and put them in a rubbermaid container. i only prepare enough for about 2 days because i dont want it to go bad. what i was wondering , will those bags keep the shredded veggies and greens fresh for a longer time s then maybe i can prepare more and not have to do it so often.

Yes, just make sure they are the green ones! Also if you don't cut the greens up until you use them they will last longer! Good luck... :wink:

yeah .that's what i was wondering. i know the bags work pretty good, but wondered if they would work as well if the greens and veggies are cut up this way i could cut up more and have them for longer and not have to do it as often as i do -- save time.

I actually cut up a few days worth of veggies at a time and have had really good luck. First of all pick out the freshest looking greens you can find at your store. I wash and dry ( with salad spinner) before cutting them up. Then pack them in regular zip lock storage bags. It's also important to press as much air as possible out of the bag. Don't worry about smashing the greens they'll be fine.

yea i use regular ziplocks as well and usually mix up about a 3-5 days worth and havent had problems yet

It may sound odd but works for my mothers rats salad. Rip the salad up, put in a ziplock bag with a paper towel. It lasts a week or so.

i use ziplock and i cut 3 buns of collard greens and they last for a while the carriots usually go bad in a week i just shred enough for one week though,, its all about figuring out what works best for you good luck
