Keeping the cat off the enclosure?

I need ideas on how to keep my sadistic kitty off of Aaliyah's cage. She never leaves my room, so locating her is not an option, nor is keeping her in a crate - she's a cat. Sticky paper will not deter her, neither will a water/vinegar solution. I prevent her from getting on the cage, but when I am sleeping or gone, she jumps at the tank.

Mouse freaks Aaliyah out, and lately, Aaliyah has been very skittish and does not trust us (Justin and I) to handle her.

She is a BABY, so I am terrified that she will be in the habit of being afraid.

All help is welcome. Thank you.

Have you tried aluminum foil ? Cats generally hate it. Use a few strips to cover part of the tank top [ but leave areas a few inches wide for air flow if you have a screen top], otherwise if it's a solid top you can cover the entire top.

I put tinfoil around the tanks, on the floor too which seemed to create an imaginary force field to the cat. The strips of foil were only about 8 inches wide but, the cat did not even attempt to go any closer than that AND, even when I took the foil away, she still stayed away from them :D

I will be sure to try it! I have never even heard of such a thing, but I'm excited to try it.

Thanks again. :D

Hopefully Mouse will stay FAR away.

You could also try those plastic carpet protectors with the little nubs on the bottom to grip the carpet. My mom used to use that to keep kitties away from the cockatiels and worked great. They hated those nubs/nipples on their paws.....

I tried foil, and while she did seem annoyed at first, Mouse refused to be deterred. :silent:

I'm thinking about using repellent, but I wonder if it works. :?:

Petsmart sells a motion detector hissing air can. I believe it is called sCat. It has kept my couch cat free and kept my cats from clawing at my bedroom door. (the two places they aren't allowed) The initial purchase is a little pricey but the good news is that you don't have to keep buying their over priced refills. Any can of air (for cleaning keyboards, etc) works.
To start, you aim the motion detector where the cat would walk or jump to get to the viv and it will fire off a little air in their direction making a hiss sound. Eventually, just seeing the can will make a cat detour away from the area. Hissing isn't friendly. :p I don't think we haven't put new air in the thing all year. The original device costs about $45 though, so I'm not sure if that is an option but it sure works! 8)

I think that would be worth it as a last resort, but I recently made big pet purchases, so I may try the repellent first.
Thank you for mentioning it, though! I had no idea such a thing existed! Definitely worth a try if everything else fails! :D

I was told by a vet to keep cats off the counter is to use a mouse trap but upside down. When the cat jumps up the trap would snap and scare the cat. I talked to my hubby about that and he said the types we use would go off when we placed them on the counter but this may be something we could think on and come up with something similar.

I have the same problem and I am going to try the al. foil idea.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
