Keeping greens fresh

Tiger loves eating his greens. But I'm wondering the best way to keep the greens fresh and stop them from becoming bad and slimey? We have been buying packs of turnip greens, spinach, etc and then storing in the fridge. We usually make it through half a bag and then they start getting bad. What do you guys do?

Thanks,
Brandon

That's a question that comes up for a lot of us. I used to take some of the leaves and put them in a paper towel and then inside a ziploc in the fridge. I'm not sure if that helped or hurt. I've also just kept them in a mesh bag in the crisper so they could "breathe". That would usually get them to last most of a week which was usually good enough. Leftovers went to the dubia roaches or into my smoothies.

Thanks Coop, I'll try the paper towel/Zip lock bag a try. I also just saw where someone said they use a cannister with an airtight lid and add 1/2 in of water and that helps them.

I haven't tried that, but worth a shot! Do you keep crickets or roaches? They're usually quite happy to eat the veges as they start to go downhill.

A loosely sealed freezer bag and into the crisper seems to work OK for mulberry leafs.

We prepare salad for the hatchlings every few days and keep it in small airtight container in the fridge.

For the other lizards, I make up my greens/veg mixture in bulk and freeze in icecube makers and take and thaw a cube each day.

I can't get my greens to last over a week! It's freaking crazy. I'll try it out as well and see how it goes.
google is your friend .... type of green , keeping / preserving

We have been using this deal we found on Amazon and have been *very* happy with how long we can keep greens fresh. It has closable vents (I leave vent on for greens) and holes in bottom to allow for moisture to drain but any moisture is caught in a second sealed bottom. We're feeding a baby, so he/she doesn't eat a whole bunch for greens- I've been able to keep dandelion green fresh + slime-free for a couple weeks in this container

That corresponds with the studies that have shown that keeping greens in the salad spinner keeps them fresh.

My big package of kale lasted a full week and it's still going strong lol. I put 2 or 3 handfuls in individual ziploc bags with a paper towel in each. Then with the remaining greens I put another paper towel in the package and rolled it up, stuck it in the crisper and voila. Oh its the little things that make me happy ☺

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
