Keeping dragon alive

Hey guys, anyone who has read the post,"my dragon just died" can relate. I am just about to get one, after a month of looking forward to it, and I want to make sure that all of my stuff is in order. Here goes
Reptile carpet, 36 by 16 tall by 18 wide 40 gallon breeder, screen cover with slit in it for uv light, 48 in uv light fixture( got it too long :wink: ) 48 in reptisun 10 tube,150 watt zoo med basking light, 60 watt Che for night time, digital thermometer with probe, plus infrared thermometer, small water dish, repti hammock, grapevine, log to climb on, log to hide under when he's older, small gut loaded crickets, will get repti-worms and and hornworms( tiny) collard greens, dried papaya and fig and raisin mix for treats, light timers, 12 hrs per cycle, peach purée, okra, and other veggies for the beautiful dragons list. That's all I can thinks of now that I have. Oh wait, herptivite, repcal d3 and no d3( once every 2 weeks) he can get right next to the heat lamp, 8 in away or 14 in away. He has a rock to bask on, too. I will get him on Saturday, I am going to start everything like lights and stuff to do a final check that everything is working right. PLEASE PLEASE let me know if I have missed ANYTHING!!!!!! You guys are great, ANY AND ALL advice is appreciated.

It's great to hear you are so prepared! Defiantly run your whole setup for a few days to make sure it all works and heats right. It sounds like you have everything ready! He's sure to have a good home, I'm excited for you!

Pick out a good one! I'm not sure where you plan to buy from but try not to be tempted to "save" a sickly baby. It may sound harsh, but a heathy start can mean a big difference.

No, I've heard too many sad storys of the little ones that died, I don't think that I could stand that... And I don't have 70 dollars to burn.

Don't use up all your worrying before you get your dragon. I'm sure he'll give you enough grief. Even the healthy ones do

I'll guess from your concern that you've read many sad stories of things going wrong. Take from them the symptoms to look out for and the preventative measures to avoid them. It looks a lot like you already have, judging from your set up preparations. Good luck!

I know the feeling very well. I fuss and fret over Pepper all the time, and I'm always still learning new things and different ways if thinking about husbandry. It's fun and stressful at the same time, but worth it You are already in a great place to ask questions and learn from other peoples experiences.

Keep an eye out, I try to post every day. Just discovered frozen cranberries and squash purée in the freezer. Lunch for my new guy tomorrow! His name is gonna be Ares, the god of war. :wink:

We got our Beardie a month ago. I never have had a reptile. Spent the first couple weeks worried sick that I was doing something wrong. It reminded me of having a newborn all over again. You seem very prepared. Plus you are here and this is the best place to get help. Hope you post a picture of your baby for us to gush over too.
