I went to the store and all they had was kale that was green and purple. At least she said it was kale. Now Mufasa is acting strange. She tried was up on her perch and started gaging, she fell off her perch then started trying to swallow it. Had some air bubbles on her mouth. Now she seems like she can breath but she keeps trying to swallow. Is there Green and purple kale, or did i just poison my baby?
Help me if you can !!!

Ok i found out that it is called Ornamental kale.
Here is what else i found out.
Many varieties of kale are referred to as "flowering kales" and are grown mainly for their ornamental leaves, which are brilliant white, red, pink, lavender, blue or violet in the interior or the rosette. Most plants sold as "ornamental cabbage" are in fact kales. Ornamental kale is as edible as any other variety, provided it has not been treated with pesticides or other harmful chemicals.

When uncooked, standard Kale is a popular garnish.

Ok so i did wash it. Just with water though. **** i think she is in trouble.

UHHH !!! Ok here is what i found out so far. First of all stores don't know if something has a pesticide on it. Secondly i called the U of I vet clinic, they gave me a number to animal poison control, but guess what they want $60. I have no problem doing that but you have to have a major credit card and that is something i don't have. I don't even have a checking account.
But if you all want the number here it is. 1-888-426-4435.

How is she acting now? You may want to try to get lots of fluids in her to help flush her system, but I'm not positive on this :? .
ETA... I have no idea if ornamental Kale is poisonous or not...

She is still spitting bubbles, and has her head up high. Trying to vomit it up but end up eating it when she gets it part way up. Her back is gettning darker, but her beard and tail are still light. She is breathing, but smacks her head on the ground and falls off her perch, but she is use to falling. She is blind so that is nothing new to her. I make sure she can not fall far.

Hello,

It sounds like she is definitely having some type of reaction to the Kale.
There is not much you can do other than flush her system out with plenty of water. You could also use a little bit of pedialyte mixed with water as well to help keep her electrolytes balanced out.
How did she lose her sight?
You could also try feeding her a little bit such as some babyfood to help her body expedite any toxins out along with the food soaking some of it up.
Try to keep her a little warmer overnight too, in order to help keep her metabolism up a little bit overnigh. Don't bake her, but maybe keep the tank around 78-80 or so until she gets to feeling better.

I will try that, she will probely bite me. LOL she always does. I got her as a rescue. Seen her on craigslist. Called the guy and talked him down on the price. He finally said he would take $75 for the cage, and i had to come and get her today or he was gonna drop her off the 3rd story balcony. He was sick of dealing with her. Went and got her and they had her in a plastic container with lid and no holes. I took her to the vet and had her checked. They said she was blind and it was caused by a foreign object poked in the eyes. You can see where it was done. Her eyes are totally black. No color at all. But i love her and would not give her up for the world. She is my baby girl. Had to get gloves to handle her cause she is aggressive. I have had her for a while now and is getting better little by little on the aggression. I have to hand feed her but that is ok. I am a stay at home mom so i have time.
I just hope she gets better.

Yeah i keep hopeing she will get over the biting thing but it has not happened yet. I have had her since June. Has tried or bit me everyday since lol. Yeah right now she is sitting up with her head raised and tail curled up. Her back is dark and so i her tail. I hope she pulls through. She is a fighter so i hope she fights her was better. She did not make it this far by giving up. I guess it is a waiting game. Gonna make her a vet appointment first thing and see what else i can do. It is gonna be an all nighter with her once again, but that is ok. Just hopeing for the best. Gonna get her out again and put her on the pillow on my lap, but have to keep the gloves on cause she tries to run and when she does not get her way she gets mad and bites. LOL ! But i am gonna go so i can try to help her some more. I kicked up the heat in my house to 85 so she will stay nice and warm. LOL! Can not wait for this electric bill :(

How is she doing this morning? When I've needed to keep my girl warmer over night, I use either a rice sock (microwaveable heat pad) or handwarmers like you would get at sporting good stores (I wrap her in a blanket with the handwarmer underneath, she does not directly touch it).

Ok i took Mufasa into the vet today. Cost me a fortune but it was worth it. My baby girl was not poisoned, but she was choking. She had ate so damn fast it just formed a build up and got caught in her throat. The vet pulled some out then showed me how to do it at home in case it happened again. She eats all the damn time but i guess i am gonna have to monitor her from now on. I am still pulling pieces out when she has trouble, but she is alot better. The vet recommended putting her on puraide foods for a while cause her throat is gonna be sore from what we are doing. I have heard you can give them some baby food. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this and what kinds they can eat. I thought about adding it to the puraide mustard greens for consistancy.
Also i am a little concerned. When i was pulling some of the kale out of her throat i got flung with saliva from her. It went into my eye. Do i need to worry about saminila ?
But all in all she is better. Mad but better. This is the first time i have seen her beard get black lol. Guess when she was trying to bite me it was out of love lol.
I want to thank everyone who helped out or were atleast concerned for her. She is not the easiest to deal with but i love her to much to give her up or stop fighting for her. She has been through enough and needs people on her side. I will post pics of her when i figure out how. I just hope to see her turn green again very soon. She does that when she is happy. :) It happens to be my sons favorite color, so he tries to make her happy as much as possible. He is only 5 but he likes to talk to her and tell her she is pretty so she turns green for him. He is not allowed to touch her cause she bites, but she likes for him to talk to her.
I want to thank everyone again and if you can help me with the last few questions i have i would appreciate it.
Also, i would like to suggest that if anyone ever has to go to the store to get food for their dragons and it is not what you normally get skip it and look for something else! Know everything they can eat so you have a choice. I am still trying to figure it out.

Oh that poor precious baby being so abused. How could anyone do something so horrible!!? Bless you for taking her in and loving her even though she is aggressive...it's no wonder...having been so abused and now can't see. Thank you for taking her and giving her a loving home!!

I'm glad to hear she is doing okay! You can feed babyfood, what I typically do is squash with a little bit of chicken. You can puree other things and mix in with it. Have you seen the "food list" with all the dos and don'ts? http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/Nutrition.html
Also, as for the saliva, it does not have salmonella. The salmonella (if any is present) would be in their digestive tracks and you would only come in contact with it when touching their poop. That's neat that she turns green when she's happy!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
