Hey all - I'm new to the site and thought I'd introduce myself and our beautiful new female Beardie, Leela!
She is a rescue; her previous owner clearly neglected to provide her with adequate care and in fact, was going abandon her in the apartment she was moving out of!
Luckily my father found out about it and got her out of there ASAP- then he gave her to us since he is not familiar w/ Beardies and knew we were.
Leela was in a 10 gallon tank w/ an electric heater underneath :x , no basking/uvb lights, and the substrate was some sort of weird sand/stone mixture. Her few furnishings were covered in feces and she was so pale that she almost looked albino - though I could tell this was not the case.
After a necessary (and expensive!) trip to the pet store, we hooked her up with everything she needs - and some extra goodies, too!
It's my pleasure to report that even though we have only had her for two days now, her color has improved drastically and she's enjoying the opportunity to bask, roam around in a large, clean terrarium, and eat properly.
Thanks to this site, we had excellent care sheets and tips to review prior to actually getting her set up in her new home. We haven't had a Beardie for almost 5 years now, so we were a little rusty... :study:
I will be browsing the discussion board for more information, especially on the topic of Beardie's who were rescued.
Can anyone help point me in the right direction? She has some issues that I need to address...
Thanks!!!
