Hello all! I've been benefiting from this site for some time now, and finally decided to join up! This is such an informative site (and all for BD owners, woo hoo!) that I'd really like to thank everyone that contributes. You guys rock!
I first got interested in Bearded Dragons when I'd been living in my current apartment for about a year. I'd had to give up my cat, Jezebel, when we moved in here and I was still missing her, though considering she went to a family with a house, yard and another cat, I'm sure she doesn't miss me! Wanting another pet, and inspired by a video at school that showed beautiful tortoises, I started browsing pet shops for an animal I could keep in my apartment. At a small local shop the baby BDs caught my eye. The info they gave me was promising, so I went home to research and discovered the perfect pet for me! Less intensive than a puppy and not as (frankly) boring as a goldfish, the ideal in-between. Plus a life-span worth investing in and a size perfect for handling yet still comfy in an apartment. I was sold!
After weeks of research and discussion with my partner we went out to pet shops again, this time armed with a long list of specific supplies, with the intent of doing some price comparison. However, at the first shop we visited, they not only had everything on my list, they also had one little 3-4 month old beardie left, whom my partner and I fell in love with. We went for it! More than six months later, we're more in love with him than ever, though there was a bit more work than we expected as we continued to learn and adjust our care of him!
And that's how Smaug came into our lives. Seems to be a fav name for a BD, guess there's a fair overlap of BD lovers and Tolkein fans, lol! He also has some nicknames, including, Smaugzilla the cricket killa', Dr. Egon Beardface (reference to Ghostbusters and Scrubs. pronounced beard-fah-say), and (very affectionately) Fatty.
Presently, we're working on building a new enclosure and a fake rock wall using info gained on this site, as well as considering the advantages of switching to a roach colony for feeders. So, again, thanks to everyone here!
My fav baby pic of Smaug, lol!
Another cute baby pic
His fav basking position before he got too big to fit his belly in there
Something more recent
I love how his color showed in this pic
