Most likely going through relocation stress. He'll likely be eating you out of house & home this time next week and working on training his new slave.
Is OK to handle him if he is not stressed by the experience , though it's wise to keep the handling to a minimum (ie getting him out to clean his viv, maybe handfeeding / bonding sessions (works very well at creating a nice strong bond with a lizard). If he backs off , don't chase him or force the issue, give him the space he wants.
They come around when they are ready.
But JIC there are issues with his viv , because many noobs get bad advise from the seller and talked into buying kits containing inappropriate / bad lights etc it's worthwhile working through my cheatsheet methodically , here it is :
